competition overall. We had a high rate of participation and support and some outstanding individual results, particularly in the track events. Congratulations to Sam Idiens, Senior Individual Champion who won the following senior events: 300m open hurdles, 200m, 800m, 400m, 1500m senior, 5000m and was runner up in the 100m hurdles. Congratulations also to Matty Hickman Junior Individual Champion who won the following junior events: 800m, 1500m, 400m and 300m. Nate Ovendale placed 3rd in the intermediate 400m and 2nd in the intermediate 3000m. Johnny Lee gained a 2nd place in senior discus and 3rd place in senior shot put. George Wilson won 3rd place in the U14 discus. Matthew Brett was 2nd in the Junior 100m Hurdles. Jack Hastie, Finlay Broomhall, Josh Jolly and Charlie Dalling made some awesome contributions to the track events, along with Bradley Shearer and Daniel Metherell who helped greatly with organising the boys on the day whilst participating themselves. The non-championship events were enthusiastically participated in and coordinated by the seniors. It was brilliant to see boys put their hands up to take part in events which were not totally in their comfort zone. Condell’s was placed 2nd overall in the relays but struggled to find enough participants for the field events – which we can work on for next year. The Year 12s also enthusiastically cooked up a storm on the BBQ at lunchtime. Although the House relays were postponed due to Level 2, the swimming finals went ahead with places in the top three achieved as follows: Matty Hickman was 2nd in the 100m Freestyle and 100m
Individual Medley and 3rd in the 200m Freestyle. Bradley Shearer was 1st in the 100m Freestyle and 50m Butterfly, as well as 2nd in the 100m Breaststroke, 100m Backstroke, 200m Individual Medley and 200m Freestyle. George Wilson was 2nd in the 50m Breaststroke and 100m Individual Medley as well as 3rd in the 50m Butterfly. Great contributions and well done to all who participated. Academic Awards: the following Condell’s boys had their achievements at NCEA celebrated. Congratulations to Rory Doull (Gold Badge), Jeremy Kinley (Gold Buttons), Brad Shearer (Gold Tie and Buttons), Josh Jolly (Gold Badge), Alex Brett (Gold Buttons), Bruce Chen (Gold Badge and Tie), Reis Azlan (Gold Buttons) and Harry Sharr (Gold Badge). House Music was a wonderful evening, I am sure everyone who was able to attend enjoyed the performances, atmosphere and venue. Brad Shearer set the tone at the start beautifully with his opening speech after the Kapa Haka group had performed. It was great to see Condell’s students taking to the stage with Big Band as well as the Kapa Haka group. The House choir stepped up to the occasion, demonstrating the ability of the boys across the year groups to support each other and of course compete as a team. Condell’s Choir won 2nd place with Liam Sue- Tang’s superb conducting adding much to the energy and fun of the performance. A big thank you to the Year 13s, in particular Sam Idiens and Liam Sue-Tang for the work they put into rehearsals and planning. Our instrumental backing to Classic won 1st place, and showed off our

Sam Idiens deserves much credit for the way he led the House this year. I would like to commend him for his positivity and sense of humour, for organising and coordinating events and of course his contribution to House Athletics. Sam has been approachable, inclusive and empathetic and most of all enjoyed his time in the House with his peers. He has been well supported by Alex Brett and Johnny Lee who were always happy to step up and lead or to support with organisation of interhouse sports. The 2021 Condell’s leavers will be remembered for their achievements and being a cohesive group who made a significant contribution toward the House. We started the year well at Athletics taking 4th place in the
