Outstanding Alumnae Advisor Mary Callicutt (Kappa Alpha-UNC Chapel Hill) may be early in her Alpha Phi volunteer journey, but her impact is already undeniable. For the past year and a half, she's served as her collegiate chapter’s recruitment advisor, and in that short time, she has made a lasting impression on the collegians of Kappa Alpha Chapter. In recognition of her remarkable contributions, Mary was honored with the Most Outstanding Alumnae Advisor Award at the University of North Carolina (UNC) Chapel Hill Fraternity and Sorority Life Awards Banquet this past March. Mary, an events coordinator for the Institute of Study Abroad, began her professional career as an educational leadership consultant (ELC) following her graduation from UNC Chapel Hill in 2023.
A Rising Star We love watching Alpha Phis reach their limitless excellence across professional disciplines and fields. Simi Patel (Eta Eta-Seton Hall) is one of those women: a first- generation attorney recently named a 2026 Super Lawyers Rising Star in North Carolina. The daughter of immigrants from Kenya and Uganda, Simi grew up in Southern California with a deep commitment to service and community, as she shares, “I grew up in a diverse community that greatly influenced my passion toward helping others and giving back to the place I call home, whether it was in California then or North Carolina now.” Today, she focuses her practice on family law, where she helps individuals and families navigate some of life’s most difficult transitions with compassion and clarity.

“After my ELC year, I knew I wanted to stay connected to the organization that shaped so much of my collegiate experience and the beginning of my professional career,” she shares. Mary is now her chapter's recrutiment advisor, a fufilling role that keeps her connected to Alpha Phi. “Mentoring the chapter I once called home and working alongside volunteers who care so deeply truly fills my cup,” she says. “I am beyond grateful to continue giving back to Alpha Phi.” We Want to Hear From You! Her passion for advocacy was shaped through experiences in
law school, including work with the Innocence Project, the Humanitarian Immigration Clinic and service as a teen court judge. These opportunities strengthened her dedication to justice and her belief in the power of thoughtful, people-centered legal support. Simi continues to bring that same purpose to her work every day — uplifting clients and communities while embodying what it means to lead as an Alpha Phi.
