While I think there are memorable summer experiences to be had out in nature, I don’t want to discount the joys of hanging out in the city itself during summertime. Boston Common is flooded with people, Faneuil Hall is full of energy, and there’s always a parade or festival going on. No matter where your preferred summer destination is, there are shared experiences that bring us all together. Who doesn’t enjoy a night spent under the stars next to a fire? Or a cookout with friends and family? Whether you prefer it Connecticut or Maine style, I’m guessing you enjoy a lobster roll while sitting at a picnic table. And of course, there’s the Sox. This year doesn’t look like it will be as glorious as last, but who knows what can happen down the stretch? If we can make a late summer run and surge into the playoffs, anything’s possible. Where do you think of going when summertime rolls around? Given that we live in New England, I’m willing to bet every single person reading this will have a different answer, and that’s the magic of living in this wonderful place. –Steve Brooks "Old Orchard Beach in Maine was my summer spot growing up. Every year, my brothers and I would head up to Maine for two weeks to enjoy the landscape and get some peace and quiet. It’s where I learned to dive into a frozen ocean and get out before the shivers got too serious."

FROM THE MOUNTAINS TO THE OCEAN The Joys of New England in the Summer

Beach, the smell and feel of the place returns to me. It’s amazing how potent early experiences can be. I think if I drove there today, the nostalgia would hit me before I got within 30 miles. For the first time, all three of my kids went to sleep-away camp. They have all been having a blast, and I’m beginning to suspect that camp will become a permanent part of their summer routine. It’s pretty cool to see them heading off on their own adventures and defining the season for themselves. For me, it’s a little like training wheels for sending them off to college one day. Even knowing they’ll be back soon, it can be hard to say goodbye. What was worse, though, was hearing about how much they enjoy the food. I consider myself a pretty good cook, so I was a little miffed to find out camp food made them happy.

It seems like everyone in the Northeast has a specific place they associate with summer. Our region possesses no shortage of wonderful warm- weather escapes, and each New Englander has their own favorite. Some mark their calendars for the Marshfield Fair, others head to their favorite town on the Cape, and still others trek up to the mountains of New Hampshire and Vermont. That’s the beauty of where we live. Whatever you’re into, New England can provide it. Old Orchard Beach in Maine was my summer spot growing up. Every year, my brothers and I would head up to Maine for two weeks to enjoy the landscape and get some peace and quiet. It’s where I learned to dive into a frozen ocean and get out before the shivers got too serious. It’s the setting for some of my fondest childhood memories. Just thinking about Old Orchard

Sweat Smart Which Workout Will Help You Meet Your Goals?

perform impressive party tricks and stay on your feet if you lose your balance.

With hot yoga, barre, Pilates, weightlifting, kickboxing, and more, personal fitness companies offer every workout you need to stay in shape. But sometimes, having dozens of choices can be more anxiety-inducing than having just a few. When it comes to finding the right workout to help you reach your goal, whether it’s weight loss, better balance, or more muscle, it’s best to seek advice from the experts.

DO YOU EVEN LIFT, BRO? For building muscle and increasing your strength, nothing beats weightlifting, whether you’re using dumbbells at home or machines at the gym. Lifting weights also helps burn fat. Speaking with SELF, Rilinger called the practice "the mother of all weight loss techniques, the highest in the workout food chain, the top of the totem pole.” Of course, the most important thing to consider when choosing a workout is whether you enjoy it enough to squeeze it into your schedule. If you resent every drop of sweat, it will undoubtedly take you longer to reach your goal than if you look forward to the challenge. WATERTOWN AND WALTHAM These two destinations along Route 20 are in the midst of rapid development. Watertown has continually built new housing complexes, while Waltham is more focused on shops and offices. The latter has promised to create more housing units to make both living and working in the city a viable option for more people. While both are still figuring out infrastructure and how to handle growing populations, they’re exciting options with bright futures. No matter where you choose to live and work, we can assist with the legal aspects of your real estate transaction. Call us today to find out how we can help.

WAX ON, WAX OFF The words “balance” and “workout” are generally associated with yoga, and while it’s true that yogis are champions of standing on one foot, so are martial artists. According to an article published by the martial arts academy chain Evolve MMA, “Martial arts works out the entire body, from the base, to the upper torso, to the all-important core ... Practicing martial arts will improve your balance, which then, of course, improves the quality of your life.” By incorporating martial arts and yoga into your workout regimen, you’ll be able to

DROP IT LIKE A POUND When it comes to weight loss, full-body workouts, like swimming, running, and cycling, are the most effective. "The more muscles you have to incorporate, the more calories you're going to burn because those muscles all require energy in order to work," Nike Master Trainer Holly Rilinger told SELF magazine. Regardless of the activity you choose, Rilinger recommends interval training as the best method. By combining bursts of intense effort with periods of active rest, you can keep your heart rate jumping and those calories burning.

Hot Real Estate Areas Outside the City Looking Beyond Boston

The real estate market of Greater Boston has been surging for years. As more and more people, especially young people, want to move into major metropolitan areas, the price of homes goes up, while their availability goes down. It’s no surprise, then, that many folks looking to buy a home are expanding their search to areas surrounding the city. Here are a few of the cities and regions where you may find a gem.

THE SOUTH SHORE The area between Braintree and Bourne has been experiencing rapid growth, and it’s not hard to see why. Given its centrality between the city and the Cape, it’s a great middle point for those who want a little more space but don’t want to spend their entire week commuting. Plymouth, in particular, has undergone a huge transformation in recent years. It’s now home to a vibrant downtown full of plenty of stores and eateries. You can expect the desirability of homes in this area to only go up.

SOMERVILLE Located just north of Boston proper, Somerville is a great option for those who want all the action of a city without the nosebleed prices in downtown Boston and Cambridge. Somerville is actually the most densely populated municipality in the state, so, if you like crowded streets, great restaurants, and plenty of culture, it’s worth considering. It’s also served by two T stations, which makes alternative modes of transportation a viable option.

The Right Place at the Wrong Time A Look at Some Interesting Personal Injury Cases

AS BELOW, SO ABOVE Time spent in the restroom is inherently

expenses, but it’s hard to determine which party was truly at fault without more information. IT’S RAINING CATS AND DOLLARS You can’t predict the weather, no matter what your weather app says, but some people tend to forget that. A few years ago, an Israeli weatherman was faced with a lawsuit by a woman who claimed his inaccurate forecast caused her a great deal of suffering. She claimed he misrepresented a particularly harsh day in the forecast, and it encouraged her to wear insufficient layers that left her health to the whim of the elements. As a result, the woman caught the flu from the downpour and missed work for four days. Citing lost income, large medication costs, and tremendous anxiety, she sought reparations from the fraudulent weatherman and was amazingly awarded a four-figure settlement!

private. We don’t normally talk about it, but that’s not the case for a Pennsylvania woman who experienced a traumatic event during a routine trip to the lady’s room. In 2007, a schlocky horror plot came to life in a building along Philadelphia’s famous Market Street. The culprit was a faulty plumbing system. The woman was inside a restroom stall on the eighth floor, and, as she sat on one of the old toilets customary in the building, pressure building from inside the tank caused a massive explosion that sent her body hurling out of the stall. You don’t need to know the details of her injuries to understand the extent of her grievances. Some forms of suffering are better left to the imagination, especially if the aggressor was a literal stink bomb. She sued the building’s landlords for anxiety, pain, and medical

There is no shortage of crazy cases that come through a court of law, but those revolving around personal injury can be especially surprising. Whether it’s a slip-and-fall accident or something a little more eccentric, there are a million ways to hurt yourself while simply going about your day. The problems arise when it’s determined to be another party’s fault. Let’s take a look at some notably strange cases where bizarre miscalculations led to injuries and ailments.

Do You Prefer Mike’s or Modern?

Boston’s Best Face Off The Battle for City Supremacy

BEST RECORD STORE: Newbury Comics vs. In Your Ear!

When you live in and around Boston, you have more than two options for everything. There are dozens of great cups of coffee or places to catch a movie in the area, but, every once in a while, two institutions vie for the title of the city’s best in a head-to-head battle. We’re not brave enough to pick a side in these tussles, but they make great fodder for a casual debate between friends or family members.

If you’ve never seen somebody walking down the street carrying a blag emblazoned with Newbury Comics’ iconic Toothface logo, you’ve not lived in Boston very long. Newbury is a cultural landmark and the best place to bring out-of-towners in search of some music or a silly gift. Allston’s In Your Ear!, on the other hand, is the type of shop where record nerds can spend hours digging through the crates.

BEST BURGER: Craigie on Main vs. Drink

BEST ITALIAN PASTRY: Mike’s Pastry vs. Modern Pastry

Tony Maws and Barbara Lynch are two titans of the Boston culinary scene, so it’s no surprise they both lay claim to the throne of the city’s best burger. Craigie on Main’s burger is the stuff of legend. It’s graced the cover of Bon Appétit and regularly sells out. The burger Lynch offers at cocktail-focused Drink used to be off-menu but grew so popular that it’s now a full-time offering.

When discussing the best Italian bakery in the North End, you’ll often hear a simple question come up: Mike’s or Modern? These two shops, which are about 400 feet away from one another, have maintained a friendly rivalry for decades. If you want to put them both to the test, grab some cannoli from each and have a taste-off. If you can’t decide, have another one — and another one and another one.

BEST SPORTS TEAM: Bruins vs. Celtics vs. Patriots vs. Red Sox

Just kidding! There’s no deciding between these franchises. We love them all.
