Minor Destinations: Neighborhood Parks

Neighborhood parks are neighborhood-scale green open spaces with improvements such as picnic tables, shade, and seating, and can include public art and/or playground equipment. Pocket parks serve as opportunities to interact with the outdoors/nature and also serve as recreation areas for informal play and activity. • Action: As parkland is acquired and developed, continue to create a series of Neighborhood parks within the community to serve both residential and commercial neighborhoods with open space and modest, shaded improvements. • Action: Provide opportunities for informal field/court play (e.g. basketball hoop, backstop, etc.) and playground equipment at pocket parks where possible. • Action: Provide/add picnic tables to all parks, pocket or major, that do not have them currently. • Action: Design and market the City’s pocket plazas and pocket parks in a way that instills a sense of branded place throughout the community and that is clearly communicated through the City website, wayfinding, on-site signage, and improvements as applicable. Pocket plazas and pocket parks should be considered as linkages between the City’s parks and recreation destinations, all connected by a common thread of sidewalks and trails (both land and water).
