Pocket Parks and Plazas Pocket parks and plazas are neighborhood-scale open spaces located near/between buildings and/or homes and incorporate sidewalks or trails, trees and landscaping, seating, and can also include public art and/or retail opportunities. Pocket parks and plazas can be community gathering spaces for passive leisure or festivals, and can take many forms. Although most people conceptualize plazas as mainly hardscape, there are also examples of plazas that incorporate grassed areas but are distinguished from pocket parks by the location near buildings and/or homes and also by some provision of hardscape or improved surfaces for gathering. • Action: Build upon the existing downtown plaza to create a series of pocket plazas within the city to function as community gathering and multi-purpose event spaces. • Action: As parkland is acquired and developed, continue to create a series of pocket plazas within the community to serve both residential and commercial neighborhoods with open space and modest, shaded improvements. • Action: Provide seating, shade, public art (interactive if possible), and food truck parking spaces where appropriate and feasible at pocket parks and plazas.
