The City of Rowlett offers a variety of indoor and outdoor recreation and programming activities. For the purposes of this Plan, recreation refers to physical activity for leisure, exercise, or competition. Programming refers to the activities and events provided and sponsored by the city to complement the park and recreation system’s physical assets. There are multiple areas of opportunity relating to recreation and programming within the city. Continuing the objective of creating a destination-centered parks and recreation system, strategies are provided below to enhance the destination potential of the existing and future parks and recreation facilities in the city by adding more activity and programming opportunities. In addition to the findings in this report, the Parks and Recreation staff has developed a Recreation Programming Plan for the FY 2017. This plan outlines and defines:
• Conceptual foundations of play • Community opportunities • Recreation programming division • Special events division • Athletics and aquatics services division
The Recreation Programming Plan should be referenced along with this report as the implementation of the plan is being considered. This chapter will focus on recreation and programming in Rowlett. Parks and Open Space and Trails and Sidewalks are discussed in separate chapters in the Plan. A goal with policies and associated actions for Recreation and Programming are detailed in the follwing pages.
