Wednesday Performance Dedication ROBERT DORADO
Born and raised in Santa Maria attending Miller Street, El Camino Jr. High and Santa Maria High Schools.
In 1978, he was recruited by the Texas Rangers and was on the farm team for about 4 years. He returned to Southern California and spent the next 8 years in the telecommunications business.
He returned to the Central Coast in 1987 and met his lifelong love, Yvette Hunstad and was married and settled down in Nipomo having 3 children, Dylan, Jared and Jordynn.
Robert spent the next 18 years working as a construction lineman until a job injury ended that career and he then became a retail manager at Home Depot and for Staples.
He left the retail business’ and fulfilled his dream of owning his own family restaurant in Nipomo. After closing the restaurant, he devoted his time to BBQ for the Santa Maria Elks Lodge & Rodeo BBQ’s. Robert served as the chairman of all the Elk’s lodge BBQ’s and is the Cook Your Own chairman. He has had the honor to be the presidential volunteer of the year 2019, received the Grand Lodge Exalted Ruler's Outstanding Service Commendation for the 2020-2021 Elk year and was recently the 2025-2026 Elk of the year. Robert has with great pride and honor that he has overseen the BBQ’s during the renowned Elk’s Rodeo for the past several years. It is with sincere thanks to both organizations for being a part of these amazing institutions.
