Antonia is that rare beast: somebody who can teach two sciences to A-level standard. Thus, although nominally a biologist, throughout her time here Antonia has had a foot in both camps and she has proved herself to be a truly excellent teacher of both subjects. Poised and unflappable, her strong academic background means she has been a knowledgeable and respected colleague and she has been more than willing to volunteer for all the many activities, academic and otherwise, that we run outside the classroom. I would particularly like to thank her for the help she has given me with our potential medics. She had an instant rapport with her students and it’s worth mentioning and together with Alison Flemming and Toby Griffiths, he has shaped an exciting and stimulating programme for the Junior School’s Music, which now includes the impressive Christmas Celebration, its own standalone Great Hall Concert and, of course, the Year 6 musicals. The remarkable number of boys committed to these Junior School occasions is clear testament to Alan’s dedication, purpose and love of Music. He has consolidated and enhanced the academic Music teaching of the Lower School forms and introduced workshop days for Steel Pans in Year 7 and Film Music in Year unexpectedly became available we managed to persuade him to stay on – after some frantic last-minute negotiations. Rob rapidly assimilated into the department and over the past three years he has shown himself to be a conscientious and dedicated teacher. Always willing to ask for advice and constantly reflecting on his own teaching, Rob has achieved excellent results not only with bright A-level sets but also with several much more challenging Middle School groups. Outside of the classroom he has made significant contributions to the sporting life of the College, coaching Choir in its performances at the annual winter concert at St John’s Smith Square

in particular the excellent relationship she maintained with her form despite spending a total of ten periods a week with them as a tutor and their teacher of both Chemistry and Biology. I always feared that we would not manage to hold on to somebody of Antonia’s ability for very long, and so it has proved. After a rollercoaster year she quite rightly decided to leave Dulwich to be with her husband Carl in Switzerland. The whole department was genuinely sorry to see her go and I know that both the Head of Chemistry and I are secretly hoping that we may see her back in our new state-of-the-art Science block before too long. We wish her all the best for a wonderful future. 8. Alan has taken a significant role in the boarding life of the College having been a Tutor in The Orchard since his arrival. Alan was also an integral part of the group of staff that travelled to China for the first Olympiad in 2015. Alan leaves the College to become Head of Academic Music at Dulwich College, Singapore – a job that enables him to further his teaching through to GCSE and ultimately A-level. His sense of fun and strong opinions on everything will be much missed by the Music department here and we wish him every success for the future. It is highly likely that we will see Alan again in 2019 in London, if not before, and we much look forward to doing so. both Hockey and Rugby. Perhaps not quite as significantly, he is also deemed to have done an excellent job in his role as Master in Charge of Crisps for the Common Room Bar and, in this regard as in many others, he will be a tough act to follow. Rob has been an absolute pleasure to work with over the past three years and I know I speak for the whole department when I say that we are extremely sorry that he is leaving us. A proud Midlander, Rob leaves us to return to his home turf to take up a post at King’s High, Warwick. We wish him all the very best for a wonderful future.

Phil Cue ANTONIA STOCKWELL A ntonia first arrived in Dulwich in September 2012 to cover for Iva Chetwood in the Chemistry department. Upon Iva’s return from China a year later, it had become clear that Antonia was too valuable an asset to let go and so, after some rather frantic negotiations, we managed to persuade her to stay on at DC as a member of the Biology department. We were very fortunate to do so, as ALAN QUADROS A lan Quadros joined the College as Head of Junior and Lower School Music in September 2012. Alan quickly established himself as an innovative, creative and inspirational teacher of Music. His energy and enthusiasm have been of considerable value to numerous ensembles and Choirs, including the Chapel Choir and Concert Orchestra. Alan directed the College Concert ROBERT HENDERSON R ob Henderson joined the Biology department in Lent 2013 as a fresh-faced PGCE student on his second teaching practice placement from King’s College. He impressed us all with his enthusiasm and his easy rapport with students and when, at the end of his placement, a post Richard Mayo and John Carnelley Phil Cue
