beliefs. In the classroom he taught Year 9 and 10 Wellbeing, tackling difficult topics with the maturity and confidence of a teacher twice his age. On the sports field he turned his skills to just about any sport that needed him – coaching U12 E teams for Rugby, Cricket and Football; and A and B teams for Hockey. These commitments inevitably took Jake off on many school trips including excursions to Wales with the Junior School; Ski trips to Norway; Football and Hockey tours to Amsterdam; and an RT visit to Glastonbury and Stonehenge. He showed a great commitment to the school’s charitable activities – overseeing the Middle School charities and the Harvest Festival collections. Such has been intellect. She has helped two cohorts of A-level students to achieve outstanding results. However, she does far more for her students than just deliver excellent lessons and mark countless essays. Time and again Hermione goes above and beyond the call of duty to help students reach their potential. She has done an enormous amount to foster learning beyond the confines of the classroom, such as running the IFS Student Investor Challenge in which some 200 students took part in this year. J essica joined the Modern Languages Department in January 2015 as a teacher of Mandarin Chinese. She quickly established herself with her classes as a committed, lively and demanding teacher leading from the front with enthusiasm and rich cultural insights. Her strong contribution to the Chinese immediately popular and successful with his teaching groups and many boys chose Spanish beyond GCSE as a result of his rapport, care and enthusiastic approach. Gervase’s highly developed pastoral skills led him to be a Year 10 tutor and we were fortunate that, in the short time he was with us, he contributed so widely to the co- curricular life of the College. Jake’s involvement in an eclectic range of activities; it is hard to accept that he has been at the College for only two years. All this was done by a man with a quiet and confident Christian faith who expressed his conviction in a truly incarnational way. To see him throwing himself into the common life of the school, and then drawing it all together prayerfully and reflectively in his preaching and assembly addresses was an inspiration to boys and staff – regardless of their religious sympathies. The boys with whom he engaged pastorally valued Jake’s wise and sensitive ear, and his great sense of fun. He has been a good and faithful servant of the College, the Chaplaincy, and the Christian Gospel, and will be greatly missed. Hermione has run the Young Enterprise competition for our Year 12 students in conjunction with girls from Sydenham High School. One Dulwich team made it through to the East London final, while the other, at the time of writing, remains in the competition awaiting the Greater London final. Hermione will be missed by students and colleagues alike. Luckily for us she is only moving as far as JAGS and we hope to see plenty more of her in the future. department was highly valued; highlights include her organising and leading the Year 10 trip to the British Film Institute’s Chinese Cinema Study Day. She leaves Dulwich to take on more responsibility for the teaching of Chinese at Imperial College. She will be missed in the department and we wish her well in the next phase of her career. strongly involved in the Human Rights Society, DCTV, forays into Spanish Theatre, the Amnesty Youth Awards and he ran a highly successful Liberal Studies course. Gervase leaves us for Prendergast Vale School and hopes to take his studies further through an MA in Comparative Literature at Birkbeck University. He will be missed and we hope that he stays in touch.

Justin White JAKE TASKER J ake has served the College as the Chaplaincy Assistant since September 2014. His has been a vital and engaging ministry, not just to the Chaplaincy, but also to many other aspects of the school’s life. In addition to his invaluable assistance to the Chaplain, he has overseen the Lower and Upper School Christian Unions – attracting a wide audience to some of his provocatively billed discussions. ‘Christians are boring! Is Jesus out to spoil everyone’s fun?’ drew a large crowd of all faiths and HERMIONE TAYLOR H ermione Taylor joined the Economics department in the summer of 2014.
