The store is designed around the two custom- ers Taylor expects to walk through the door. The hardware side is for the person coming in for a repair or a project at home. “Maybe picking up a fishing pole for the grandkids and some snacks to go out on a Saturday.” “ Derek Taylor stands on the unfinished retail floor during an August site visit.
Contractors get the other half of the equation. Taylor says the company will supply lumber, win- dows and doors for larger jobs. Current plans also call for a full hardware and paint store, while the building-materials side extends into framing lumber and engineered wood, siding, roofing and jobsite delivery. Below the retail floor is about 14,000 square feet of storage, giving the lumber and building-ma- terials side of the business room beyond what customers see upstairs.
