REACH Holding fast the word of life, so that I may rejoice in the day of Christ that I have not run in vain or labored in vain. (Philippians 2:16)

WE BELIEVE IT IS OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO REACH THIS GENERATION WITH THE GOSPEL

Today’s youth face incredible challenges. Students are besieged daily by the onslaught of a broken society that no longer holds to biblical values. In almost every aspect of their lives, students face decisions that often lead to unhealthy moral and spiritual destinies. Nearly six in ten young people who grow up in Christian churches end up walking away from the faith. (Barna, April 2016) Today, nearly four in ten young adults now describe themselves as religiously unaffiliated (i.e. atheists, agnostics or “nones”). (Exodus: Why Americans are Leaving Religion – and Why They’re Unlikely to Come Back, 2016) Over half of the world’s population is under the age of 30. (United Nations) 1 2

WHAT DOES TH I S MEAN?

THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A GREATER TIME TO REACH YOUNG LIVES WITH THE LIFE- CHANGING MESSAGE OF THE GOSPEL!

3

MISSION

The fruit of the righteous is the tree of life, and he that winneth souls is wise. (Proverbs 11:30)

AN UNCHANGI NG MESSAGE THAT CHANGES L I VES The Word of Life story began in the heart of Jack Wyrtzen, a young evangelist in New York City. As he shared his faith on street corners, the ministry began to grow. A small radio broadcast followed and rapidly expanded to rallies, camps and conferences, Bible Institutes, international missions and student ministries in local churches.

For more than 77 years, this story has been continued through the countless young lives who have been touched and changed in more than 70 countries around the world.

Today, through the worldwide ministries, we continue to focus on four things...

1

SCRIPTURE We are committed to the Scriptures as the source and foundation for ministry. EVANGELISM We are committed to fulfilling the Great Commission by boldly proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ and challenging people to respond. DISCIPLESHIP We are committed to the intentional process of teaching and influencing others to become more like Jesus Christ. YOUTH We are committed to reaching youth whose culture constantly changes with biblical truth that never changes.

I AM NOT SURE IF I CAN PUT INTO WORDS HOW THE LORD HAS CHANGED ME IN ONE SHORT YEAR. I CAN HONESTLY SAY THAT I DO NOT RECOGNIZE THE PERSON I WAS A YEAR AGO. I AM SO THANKFUL FOR THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN A PART OF ONE OF THE GREATEST YEARS OF MY LIFE. ” RACHEL | Bible Institute Alumnus “

THE DEPTH OF FAITH AND FIRE FOR EVANGELISM I DEVELOPED AT WORD OF LIFE BIBLE INSTITUTE IS WHAT FUELS MY CURRENT MINISTRY AS A CHURCH PLANTER. ” DENNIS | Alumnus & Missionary “

At Word of Life, today’s youth hear the Gospel and learn to study and apply biblical truth through personal discipleship and to effectively share their faith. We believe as students learn the Word of God, they discover the will of God. AT WORD OF L I FE CAMPS Every year more than 16,000 young people and families experience camp in the United States, and more than 100,000 attend camps around the world. At every Word of Life camp, guests hear the Gospel and are challenged to grow closer to the Lord. AT WORD OF L I FE BIBLE I NST I TUTES Through rigorous study, active discipleship in daily life and practical ministry outreach, students are immersed in the Word of God and challenged to immediately use what they learn in the classroom. WHAT HAPPENS IN LIVES So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. (Romans 10:17)

More than 40,000 alumni around the world are making an impact in their local communities and churches, as well as serving as pastors, missionaries and ministry leaders.

5

WE BELIEVE NOW IS THE TIME TO REACH THIS GENERATION WITH THE GOSPEL!

THROUGH OUR LOCAL CHURCH + I NTERNAT IONAL MI N I STR I ES In 70 countries on six continents, Word of Life missionaries are touching the lives of thousands of young people every week. At Word of Life Camp I realized I needed to accept Christ. I attended Word of Life Bible Institute in Brazil and was taught the Word of God, which is the manual for our lives . . . it really helped me to get God’s perspective for my talents and how He could use me. SERGIO CARIELLO | Bible Institute Alumnus, Action Bible Illustrator

WORDS CANNOT EXPRESS HOW MUCH FUN I HAD AND ALL THE THINGS I HAVE LEARNED AT CAMP. I MADE A DECISION THAT I WANT TO SHARE MY LOVE FOR THE LORD WITH MY FRIENDS AND I HAVE DECIDED TO COME TO WORD OF LIFE BIBLE INSTITUTE. ” ALIYAH | Camper “

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR WHAT YOU HAVE INVESTED IN ME. MY YEAR AT WORD OF LIFE BIBLE INSTITUTE HAS RADICALLY CHANGED MY LIFE AND I AM NOW LOOKING AT GOING INTO THE PASTORATE. I PLEAD WITH YOU, CONTINUE TO INVEST IN STUDENTS . . . YOU ARE HELPING NOT JUST IN THIS WORLD, BUT IN ETERNITY. ” ROBERT | Bible Institute Alumnus “

LIFE CHANGE AT THE HEART LEVEL

When the Word of God is presented at a Word of Life Camp or event, when it is taught at a Local Church Ministries Bible Club or at a Word of Life Bible Institute, the Holy Spirit speaks to the hearts of young people. The result is life change at the heart level! More than 120,000 young people make salvation decisions , and thousands more dedicate their lives to the Lord each year! Your investment in young lives is one of the most rewarding and strategic eternal investments you can make!

At Word of Life, we believe students are looking for truth, reality and relationship. These are only found through a personal encounter with Jesus Christ and a daily walk with Him that involves spending time in the Word of God.

VI SION . . . lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest. (John 4:35b)

ETERNAL IMPACT IS BEING REALIZED AT WORD OF LIFE

Envision a future that builds on a rich heritage of touching the lives of youth and responding to their challenges by breaking down the walls of students who are caged in the fear and desperation of a broken world. This is life change and it happens all the time at Word of Life . . . As the Word of God is presented, young lives are rebuilt to engage with their world based on the truth of Scripture. Envision a future where thousands of youth around the world are touching lives in their local churches and communities, multiplying their impact through providing leadership for other youth and making a difference for eternity. That future is here . . . as young lives are experiencing their faith more than ever before. Our vision is to build on this impact, to multiply it and to reach this generation. Young people who experience their faith at Word of Life become men and women who are grounded in their faith, reflectors of God’s light and seasoned with salt to reach a world in desperate need of the only thing that will truly change lives now and forever – the Gospel.

We are committed to build on our foundation and to the same message that was shared by Jack Wyrtzen...using current methods that resonate with this generation of youth!

8

We realize it is our responsibility to help reach this generation, and the best opportunity is to touch lives when they are young. A Barna study indicates that almost half of all Americans who accept Jesus Christ do so before the age of 13 (43%), and that almost two out of three Christians (64%) made their commitment to Christ before age 18 ( The Barna Group ). As Word of Life continues to offer the hope of the Gospel focused on youth, three strategic priorities have been identified that will enable us to continue to grow our impact and be better positioned to see lives changed, leaders cultivated, and eternal impact realized!

OUR GOAL IS TO EXPAND OUR REACH TO TOUCH THE LIVES OF 5 MILLION PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD ANNUALLY WITH THE LIFE-CHANGING MESSAGE OF THE GOSPEL!

9

LIVES CHANGED

WI LL IAM’ S STORY William tried to take his life when he was just 12 years old. He was so angry at life and felt all alone. In God’s providence, his grandmother walked in just as he was preparing the rope – and he was stopped.

From that time on, William says he would pray to God, but his heart was restless. He didn’t know what happiness was – and he tried to find it in all kinds of worldly things.

Everything changed when William was invited to come to Word of Life summer camp. His way was paid through the generous help of friends who gave to a camp scholarship fund!

At camp, William was surrounded by hundreds of smiling, joyful kids who had Christ in their hearts. He was intrigued and a little jealous – he wanted whatever it was these kids had. Of course, at Word of Life, William heard the Gospel and by the Thursday evening of camp, he asked Jesus to be his Savior.

FERNANDO ’ S STORY Fernando, a young man from Argentina, began hanging out with the wrong friends in his neighborhood and began smoking marijuana at the age of 12. He soon became addicted and quickly moved to injecting himself daily with drugs for the next 11 years. When he learned he had contracted AIDS, he became depressed. His life was totally lost and without purpose until a friend shared the Gospel with him. Fernando trusted Christ, and his life was changed as he attended a Word of Life Camp and learned how to grow in his new-found faith.

10

LEADERS CULTIVATED

William and Fernando’s stories are examples of God’s grace and how He is using Word of Life to develop future leaders. Today, both of these young men are continuing to build their faith, to prepare themselves for ministry, to reach their generation with the Gospel. Here are the rest of their stories . . . William... Ever since the day he was saved, God has been doing wonderful things in William’s life! His hunger for the Word of God was ignited, and now he is a student at an international Word of Life Discipleship Training Center – studying the Word of God and looking forward to whatever God has next for him! Fernando... After attending camp, Fernando found a new purpose in life and believed God was leading him to the Word of Life Bible Institute in Argentina. After graduating, he began a ministry called – AIDS vs. Life, and Fernando shares his unique and compelling life story around the world. Because AIDS is a significant problem in many countries, Fernando is able to speak in public schools and has led hundreds of young people to Christ. He is now married, and God has blessed Fernando and his wife with a beautiful young daughter who was born without AIDS.

11

ETERNAL IMPACT REALIZED

Both of these young men, William and Fernando, were reached through the influence of second and third generation leaders who trusted Christ at Word of Life Camps here in America, and were challenged to reach their generation with the Gospel! In fact, most of Word of Life’s leadership in America and around the world made salvation and/or dedication decisions at Word of Life Camps and studied at Word of Life Bible Institute!

The young men and women who have made a decision to trust Christ and who been challenged to commit their lives to Him, continue to make an impact today!

IMPACT ON ONE L I FE . . . J.D. Greear is the pastor of The Summit Church in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, which is known for its rapid growth and as a sending church to the nations. When people ask him what the secret is, J.D. explains that he put into practice the truths he learned while studying at the Word of Life Bible Institute. He remembers Word of Life Founder, Jack Wyrtzen, exhorting students to know there is power in the Word of God, to believe in the power of prayer and to have a vision to reach the world with the message of the Gospel. Now, 20 years later, J.D. considers the life-changing impact of Word of Life Bible Institute to be one of God’s greatest “grace gifts” to him.

(J.D. Greear was recently elected President of the Southern Baptist Convention.)

TRAINING STUDENTS FOR MAXIMUM IMPACT

As we look to the future, the path to greater impact is through Word of Life Bible Institute (WOLBI). Our passion is to train students in the Word of God and to prepare them to lead lives of maximum effectiveness for the Lord...wherever He leads them. The student’s life and spiritual growth are a major focus on all our campuses. Using sports as a medium for evangelism and discipleship has been a part of Word of Life for decades. The new Health and Athletic Center represents the next big step in building into young lives. Not only is physical education and fitness a vital part of our program for every student, but also sports teams represent a major student outreach as our teams regularly compete with other colleges in the Northeast. Coaches consistently allow our students to share the Gospel with their athletes and every year many trust Christ as Savior. High school students will be able to participate in sports camps and tournaments with the purpose of evangelism throughout the year!

I AM EXCITED TO KNOW THAT OUR LORD WILL USE THE NEW HEALTH AND ATHLETIC CENTER AT WOLBI FOR HIS GLORY...MANY YOUNG ATHLETES WILL BE CHALLENGED TO COMMIT THEIR LIVES TO CHRIST BECAUSE OF IT. ” NORM SONJU | Retired President / GM of Dallas Mavericks “

A TRADEMARK CAMPING MINISTRY

Word of Life’s camping ministry began on The Island more than 70 years ago. Young people experience more than an exciting, fun-filled week of camp. For many, the spiritual decisions that are made initiate a new beginning. Whether it is a decision to trust Christ or a renewed commitment to follow Him, a camping experience on The Island has been the springboard to tens of thousands of changed lives. Significant upgrades have not been made to facilities on The Island for more than 30 years. THE T IME I S NOW TO BEGI N BU I LDI NG NEW AND UPGRADED FAC I L I T I ES .

Our Florida ministry began in 1990 and the Bible Institute opened seven years later. Since then, lives are continuing to be reached and changed for eternity. The Youth Camp ministers to children, middle school and high school aged youth and has averaged over 3,000 campers during the past five summers. In addition, the Bible Institute teaching site is host to more than 125 college students annually. To effectively meet the growing ministry needs, four new cabins will allow for up to 670 campers per week and will also provide housing for retreats and Bible Institute students. With the steady growth in summer camp and youth retreat attendance, there is a consistent recruiting opportunity for Bible Institute enrollment.

LEGACY GIVING

GOAL : $25 , 000 , 000 Your legacy gift may provide the opportunity to make a larger gift to Word of Life than is possible during your lifetime. It could support a special project or continue your annual giving. It can also be given in memory of a loved one. Word of Life receives financial support through several types of gifts. Some gifts are regular and support ongoing ministry and missionary outreach. Some gifts are for one-time ministry special projects. Others are legacy gifts given through a will or trust. By naming Word of Life as a beneficiary, your legacy gift helps sustain the ministry and provides resources to expand Word of Life’s worldwide efforts in evangelism and discipleship. Your gift can also help to extend the reach of the ministry through the provision of Life Change Camper and Student Scholarships. Six years ago Lori and I had a simple will in place; however, it was very outdated. We knew we needed to update our plans, and we knew we needed help. We had talked with a couple of local attorneys, but they didn’t really address the tax issues. They also did not take into account the Christian Stewardship principles Lori and I wanted to follow. In addition to helping us with our will and general estate planning needs, Word of Life introduced us to an advisor who specialized in business continuation planning. We feel very blessed by the services provided and how they have helped us and our family. We would strongly suggest to anyone to look at their legacy from a biblical worldview and to connect with Word of Life. - Joe and Lori Hunt As you review the resources God has entrusted to you and explore different opportunities to give, would you prayerfully consider including Word of Life in your legacy plans? If needed, Word of Life can provide you with advisors who will help you create a plan that meets your stewardship goals. For more information or to talk to someone personally, contact: “
