have to be a client of the food bank.” Anstey said that it has recently come to her attention that some people may think they can’t shop at the secondhand shop, if they are not clients of the food bank. “You have to live in the area to benefit from the food bank,” said Anstey. “But anyone can shop at the Friperie.” The shop’s manager, Nicole Picard, said she overheard a woman fromPlantagenet saying she couldn’t shop there because she lived too far away. “I felt so bad for her,” said Picard. “I told her everyone is welcome to shop here.”
The shop stocks just about everything from clothing to coffee pots. “Besides clothes, we have dishes, small appliances, shoes, purses, knick knacks, books, CDs, movies, and even furniture sometimes,” said Anstey. “A purchase from the Friperie is a donation to the food bank.” The shop has regular ‘fill a bag’ sales on the first Saturday, and theWednesday following, as well as the fifth Saturday of each month. Visitors can fill a bag of clothing for a nominal fee, and funds go toward purchasing food for the food bank. “All the clothes are cleaned and
pressed before we put them out,” explained Anstey. “Some of themare new and even still have the tag on.” The shop is open Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and on Saturdays when there is a sale, from9 a.m. to noon. “People should come early if they want to get a good choice,” joked Anstey. “The early bird gets the worm.” Information can be found on the food bank Facebook page under Banque Alimentaire de L’Orignal Food Bank or by calling 613-675-1999.
