Staff Transitions
The Counseling Team is said good-bye to two of its psychologists at the end of Spring Quarter. Dr. Laura Dixon left her position at the end of June to move to Oren, UT for family needs. Dr. Dixon was with the SMaCC for nearly 8 years. In addition to be providing stu- dents with excellent clinical services, Dr. Dixon served as the clinic’s group therapy coordinator, championing group therapy and providing training and support to staff. Under her, the clinic’s group program grew exponentially. Dr. Dixon was also the liaison to the campus Veteran’s Center and Club, helping to develop and lead the support group on campus. She was also a vital member of the Doctoral Internship Training Team. Her presence and exper- tise will be missed by the team and we wish her all the best in her new endeavors. Dr. Amal Abuzalaf Mull ended her part-temporary psychologist po- sition in mid-June. Dr. Mull came to the SMaCC as a Doctoral Intern in 2014 and then continued as a staff member. In addition to her invaluable clinical services and supervision and training, Dr. Mull took the lead on conducting research into the outcome effects of our Pathways program. Her work, along with the contributions of Drs. Cleveland, Dixon, and Robinette, lead to a well-received, half- day, preconference workshop at the Association of University and College Counseling Center Director’s annual conference and an arti- cle submission (and tentative acceptance for publication) to the peer reviewed Journal of Student Psychotherapy. She will be great- ly missed. Marcia Rorty, PhD, was hired as a licensed psychologist to fill the vacancy left by Dr. Cleveland’s departure at the end of Winter Quar- ter. Dr. Rorty will begin work on July 16, 2018. Searches Underway The Counseling Team is actively searching for a new psychologist to fill the position vacated by Dr. Dixon. Initial Skype interviews were conducted at the end of June. The team hopes to move for- ward with on campus interviews in July. The Counseling Team was approved to hire a new Master’s level counselor. Skype interviews for this position will begin, hopefully, during the second week of July.
