Succès pour le Festival du Canard et de la Plume

MacLeod était la tête d’affiche pour la soirée du vendredi. Un tournoi de volleyball et beaucoup de musique ont aussi fait partie du divertissement de la fin de semaine. Les enfants ont pu s’aligner le long de l’étang pour encourager leur canard lors de la course. Le Service des incendies de La Nation était présent pour donner un coup de main aux canards afin qu’ils puissent franchir la ligne d’arrivée. Les amateurs de voitures ont pu se rincer l’oeil, alors que des centaines de voitures étaient exposées. Du premier modèle Ford T, en passant par les muscles cars et les voitures spécialisées, il y en avait pour tous les goûts.
Le Festival annuel du Canard et de la Plume s’est déroulé le 12 et 13 juin à St- Isidore. Des centaines de visiteurs, dont MP Pierre Lemieux, sont venus admirer les voitures et, bien sûr, regarder la course des canards. Plusieurs activités étaient organisées pour les visiteurs de tous âges. Il y avait un kiosque demaquillage, le Little Ray’s Reptile Zoo, un barbecue, le spectaculaire salon de l’auto et la course de canards. Pour les plus grands, le comédien Peter
Water conservation notice for PR region
The recent rain storm may have made some of the streets seem like small riv- ers in towns and villages throughout the Prescott-Russell region. But there is still a slight water shortage for the area. The SouthNation Conservation Agency (SNC) has issued a Level 1 Low Water Condition notice as of June 11. A Level 1 Notice means there is a potential for a water supply problem in the South Nation River watershed but there is no cause for alarmat present if careful water conserva- tion measures are observed. The SNC’s monitoring program for the watershed indicates that the past spring season has seen about 60 to 70 per cent of the historical average for rainfall in the region between the period from March to May. If the amount of rainfall during the late spring and early summer months continues at below-average levels then there is potential for more serious water supply problems later in the year. The SNC suggests residents, businesses, and industries throughout the South Na- tion watershed region reduce their water consumption by at least 10 per cent.This is possible by doing away with non-essential water use and limiting needed water con- sumption as much as possible. use proper load size settings on wash- ing machines; restrict lawn and garden watering to the early morning or late evening hours when the ground has a chance to absorb the water. Make sure not to leave sprinklers on during the night or during the heat of the day. Avoid car washing if possible or use a bucket for washing rather than just letting the hose run. The SNC water response team has a June 17 review scheduled for an update review of watershedmonitoring reports and to discuss the low-water situation. The group includes representatives for municipalities within the SNC area, the agricultural sector and other special in- terest groups, and the provincial environ- ment and natural resources ministries. If below-average rainfall conditions continue during the immediate future, then the SNCwill have to consider either Level 2 or Level 3 Condition alerts. Level 2 means there is potential for a serious water supply problem while Level 3 means drought conditions are possible because the available water supply can- not meet urgent needs for the watershed fish and wildlife and human inhabitants. The South Nation River watershed stretches from the headwaters of the South Nation River near Brockville and includes tributary streams like the Castor River as the South Nation flows down to the Ottawa River.The watershed stretch- es east as far as Maxville and west to the City of Ottawa and all the riverside com- munities in the Prescott-Russell region.
