Key Hawks players missing all weekend

It was a roughweekend for the Hawks who lost to both the Cornwall Colts on Friday and the Ottawa Senators on Saturday. Sun- day was the silver lining of the weekend for the Hawks who beat the Pembroke Lumber Kings 3-1. At their Friday home game, the Hawks dominated the first two periods against the Cornwall Colts where Tyler Cooper and Ja- cob Drobczyk each scored for their team. Christopher Mammas was the only scorer for the Colts during these two periods. Things went sour for the Hawks in the third period when the Cornwall Colts man- aged to score three goals while the Hawks only scored one goal, ending the game 4-3 for the Colts. Saturday’s away game against the Ot- tawa Senators mirrored the other game.The Hawks were dominated by the Senators in the first two periods. The Hawks made a comeback in the third but it was too late and the Senators won the game 4-2. “Friday and Saturday, we gave the game to our opponents. Wemade critical mistakes that cost us and we couldn’t find the back of the net,” said Rick Dorval, head coach for the Hawkesbury Hawks. The Hawks started Sunday’s game against the Pembroke Lumber Kings the same way they had started their Saturday game. The Hawks were dominated by the Lumber Kings who managed to score the first game goal in the second period. The VankleekHill Cougars spent their final week of January with one makeup game and two regular matches in their game schedule. The Cougars added two more wins to their season tally with home wins against Rockland and Morrisburg. The Cougars played host to the Rockland Nationals at their Vankleek Hill Arena den last Wednesday night. T he Jan. 25 evening match was a makeup game because foul winter weather condi- tions, last month, had forced a cancellation. Vankleek Hill clipped Rockland 5-4 with the Cougars scoring in every period and holding the Nats off from the net during first and third period. Punching in goals for Vankleek Hill were Charles Doyon, Marc-Antoine Doyon, Tyler Druce, Brenden Rowe, and Riley Sauvé. Scor- ing assists came from the two Doyons, Ryan Allen, Nikolas Ayotte, Ronnie Boots, and Maxime Emond. Anthony Vassall guarded the Cougars’ net. Scoring for Rockland in second period that night were Jeff Brett, Matthew Clifford, Garrett Reed, and Nikolas Spirito. Assists came from Clifford, Reed, Paul Armstrong, and Frederik Champagne. Lucas Samson warded the Rockland net. The Cougars clawed theMorrisburg Lions 6-4 Saturday night, at the Cougars den, with GREGG CHAMBERLAIN gregg.chamberlain@eap.on.ca
