What should change leaders expect from good assurance? Independent programme assurance is successful when it creates meaningful, lasting change. While every programme is different, leaders typically experience: Earlier clarity on risk and delivery confidence More effective decision-making Improved sponsor and board confidence Stronger governance conversations Stabilised delivery environments Greater likelihood of benefits being realised. Often, the most valuable outcome is a reset in how leaders see and steer their programme. Questions leaders should be asking right now What would an independent expert challenge first? Where are we relying on optimism rather than evidence? Are difficult decisions being made, or deferred? If this programme was drifting, how quickly would we know? If these are hard to answer, that is a signal, not a failure.
