When programme assurance creates the most value
A practical assurance approach
Programme assurance is not something to “add later” when problems become visible. Its greatest value comes at key inflection points, when decisions made, or not made, have long-term consequences. It is particularly valuable during: Mobilisation and early design Major decision gates Leadership or supplier transitions Regulatory or operational milestones Recovery situations. Assurance is not a permanent overhead. Used well, it is targeted, timely and proportionate.
A strong approach to effective programme assurance is: Targeted Time-bound Senior-led Independent.
Typically, this includes: Rapid orientation
Evidence-based insight Independent challenge Clear, actionable outputs. The emphasis is always on bringing clarity and pace to change.
What does good programme assurance focus on? Effective assurance starts with outcomes and focuses on :
Leadership and decision-making Outcomes and benefits ownership Delivery confidence
Commercial and supplier risk People and change readiness. This ensures assurance is insight-led rather than checklist-driven.
