Assistant Professor

Assistant Professors in the clinical track have had extensive training in ENT or in related ancillary fields of study and are capable of evaluating most disorders relating to their discipline and developing proper treatment plans; however, they seek assistance from more senior faculty and other colleagues for patients with highly complex problems. Involvement in the discovery, organization, interpretation and transmission of new knowledge related to patient care, disease entities, health care delivery, health care economics, professional ethics, medical legal issues and new educational patient care methodology is encouraged. Teaching activities will involve both informal and formal instruction on the medical student, resident, fellow, and graduate level. Teaching should not be limited to the classroom but encompass instruction in the operating room environment, laboratory sessions, in-patient unites and ambulatory care sites as well as the departmental and college levels. In addition, as full-time faculty in the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, participation in administrative activities such as participation in the Residency and Medical Student Training Committee, program coordinators, RPT Committee, Quality Assessment Committee is expected. Clinical research activities in the form of publications in peer reviewed journals, abstracts and presentations at local, state, national and international meetings are not required but are strongly encouraged.

Associate Professor

Associate Professorship status in the clinical track requires the individual to demonstrate documental evidence of excellence in patient care. Local recognition as a consultant in a clinical specialty, invitations for speaking engagements in clinical matters and extensive clinical practice are expected at this level. The individual should be capable of handling all common and most unusual clinical situations in the relevant areas of expertise including the discovery, organization, interpretation and transmission of new knowledge related to patient care, disease entities, health care delivery, health care economics, professional ethics, medical legal issues and new educational patient care methodology. Individuals who have obtained the rank of Associate Professor in the clinical track are required to participate in a wide range of teaching activities including supervision or residents and medical students, formal didactic activities including grand rounds, basic science lectures, conferences, national presentations, and other teaching and consulting lectures throughout the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, the City of Cincinnati, and other institutions. In addition, related administrative activities are expected including development and organization of new and innovative teaching or evaluation
