A greater contribution to the clinical, teaching and research missions of the Department is required at this level. In addition to their patient related activities and responsibilities, professional objectives should be identified and goals determined. Community service and participation in professional organizational activities are encouraged.

Associate Professor

Significant contributions in the individual’s area of expertise are expected at this level are expected at the Department, College and University levels. In addition to patient care responsibilities and commitments, academic activities including participation in teaching rounds and supervision of graduate and post-graduate students, are required. Leadership roles and program development are expected. Publication and presentation of clinical relevant data is strongly encouraged.

Professor

In addition, to the workload identified at the Assistant Professor level, Field Service Professors must have a long-standing excellence in performance with major contributions toward the Department’s clinical, research and teaching missions. Documentable achievements in other areas such as development of innovative courses, evaluation methods, and/or new research approaches are strongly encouraged.

In order to be promoted to the Professor rank, completion and acceptance of a Triological Society thesis is strongly encouraged.

NON-TENURED TRACKS: Adjunct Track, Volunteer Track, Visiting Track, Secondary Appointments, Affiliate Faculty Appointments: For these tracks, the Department of Otolaryngology will follow the College of Medicine Faculty Guidelines

TIMETABLE FOR REVIEW AND REVISION OF POLICY

The Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery Workload policy will be reviewed and updated as necessary and submitted to the Dean and Provost for approval no less frequently than every 5 years.

IMPLEMENTATION

The current UC/AAUP agreement states that the academic unit head is charged with the responsibility to provide leadership in areas relating to long-range planning, curriculum development, program review, distribution and utilization of resources, budget management and teaching assignments. Hence, department or division heads will discuss
