Camp Day at Tim Hortons
VCI raising funds for
The Interact Club at Vankleek Hill Collegiate Institute is at it again. The club, led by teachers Ilze Hillier and Natalie Kouao, conducted a silent auction with baskets of different items such as a movie basket, an art basket, and a sports basket to name a few. Funds raised from the auction will go to the Canadian Cancer Society. “All the items were donated by the students,” said Hillier. “Zier Zhou, a grade 11 student, registered us with the Canadian Cancer Society, and here we are.” Hillier expects to raise approximately $350 from this event.The club has had several fundraising events throughout the year, and may have one or two more before the year is through.
Francine Allard lent her car to be washed for the annual TimHorton CampDay, Saturday. Plenty of volunteers were on hand at the TimHortons onHighway 17 to raise funds for the TimHorton Children’s Foundation.The first Wednesday in June is usually the day Timmies donate coffee sales to sendmore than 14,000 kids on a camping adventure in Canada. U.S. volunteers also participate in fundraising activities such as this car wash so that children can attend a summer camp. Since 1975, more than 150,000 kids have been able to go to camp at no cost so they can benefit froman experience of a lifetime.

La Semaine des para- médics de l’Ontario Les Services d’urgence des Comtés unis de Prescott et Russell (CUPR) et son équipe de paramédics ont participé à plusieurs acti- vités communautaires dans le cadre de la Semaine des paramédics, qui se déroulait du 24 au 30 mai. L’objectif de cette semaine est d’informer les communautés sur le rôle que jouent les professionnels de la santé dans les soins prodigués hors de l’hôpital. Les paramédics ont donc participé à plusieurs activités, comme les vérifications des listes de médicaments chez des résidents, le service des repas dans certaines résidences de per- sonnes âgées ainsi qu’à des présentations de sensibilisation « SurVivons à notre bal » dans les écoles secondaires de la région. Outre la Semaine des paramédics, la province a aussi désigné le 1 er mai comme le Jour des premiers intervenants, en plus de remettre, au courant du mois, le Prix de bravoure des auxiliaires médicaux de l’Ontario. Vankleek Hill Collegiate Institute will be holding a cake auction to support the 2015 Stratford Festival trip, during the next school year. Led by teachers Sarah Dagg, and Natalie Kouao, the students hope to have at least 20 cakes to be auctioned off. Most of the cakes will have a Father’s Day theme. Dagg went on the Stratford trip when she was a teenager attending VCI. “It’s one of my favourite memories fromhigh school,” saidDagg. “It is a wonderful learning experience.” The trip will include backstage tours, a warehouse tour to see costumes and props, a scavenger hunt and three plays including Hamlet,The Sound of Music, and Diary of Anne Frank. The public is welcomed to join in on the auction, June 12, at 10:50 a.m. in the school cafeteria.
