These days, people will be quick to tell you that the world is changing. And in many ways, there’s a lot of truth to that statement. The ripple effects of this new virus are far-reaching, causing people to adapt in ways that they’ve never had to consider before. AZCOMP is no exception to that. But behind the changes to how we do things, there’s something that remains the same: the reasons why we do things. Our mission as a business is identical to yours. We want to provide phenomenal service because we know that the well-being of many depends on it. We help medical professionals with their technology so they’re able to provide their patients with the medical services they need to stay healthy. When COVID-19 threatened to change the way our mission might be achieved, it was admittedly terrifying for everyone. But it’s been incredible to see that those changes haven’t gotten the best of us because the motivation behind what we do has remained untouched. Remote work can be a daunting prospect for businesses that are so collaborative. But what we’ve discovered is that being productively collaborative is all about our willingness to communicate. At AZCOMP, that willingness has not changed, no matter where each member of our team is located. Being dedicated to continued communication has allowed us to help our customers set up their own remote work systems and continue providing services to their patients. When a medical office closes, it doesn’t mean patients can stop treatment or cancel consultations. There has to be a way for doctors to continue providing care even when they aren’t able to see their patients in person. Our team understood the importance
of that fact from the moment the playing field changed, and we’ve taken on the responsibility of making sure medical professionals can still do the things their patients need them to do. We’ve been helping offices set up telehealth services that allow doctors to continue “seeing” their patients and provide treatment plans. We’ve also helped practices set up systems so their internal communication can flourish. During this tumultuous time, no patient wants to feel like they’ve been forgotten about, and that’s why it’s been so important for medical offices to find a way to communicate en masse. Doing so may require the implementation of a whole new system, but if there’s one thing that all these scenarios have taught us, it’s that learning how to adapt may pave the way for exciting innovations in the future. Throughout this journey, we’ve learned a lot of things we didn’t expect to learn about ourselves and our team. Going through a mental shift about the work you do, and going through it quickly, is a challenge. But we’ve faced those challenges head-on and are ready to help you face them too. So, if you haven’t quite figured out how to adapt your office into a productive remote- work atmosphere or if you have new systems or software that you’d like to try, then don’t hesitate to reach out to us. 4 THINGS YOU DIDN’T KNOW ZOOM COULD DO
The videoconferencing app Zoom has quickly become the top contender in a world saturated with apps and software trying to make it easier for families to catch up and for business meetings to take place. If you can make and answer calls, then you’ve got the gist of how Zoom works, but did you know there’s so much more you can do? MAKE A STEALTHY ENTRANCE. If you’re going to be entering a business meeting late or don’t want to disturb a family member who’s in the middle of a story, then you can opt to enter the call silently. In settings, select the audio tab and check the box to “Always” mute your microphone when joining a meeting. Do the same under the video tab. You can easily unmute yourself or make yourself visible again at any time during the call. CHANGE YOUR BACKGROUND. This one can be for fun or useful if you have a mess behind you that you’d like to hide from others on the call. Simply go into the settings of your Zoom app and click “Virtual Background.” From there, Zoom ‘THE LONG-DISTANCE LEADER’ The work atmosphere has changed for many businesses lately, and for some, it may not end up being so temporary. Remote work has its share of criticisms, but the authors behind “The Long-Distance Leader: Rules for Remarkable Remote Leadership” have developed a model that proves great leadership at the head of a remote team leads to great work from that team. EMBRACE THE RULES FOR REMARKABLE REMOTE LEADERSHIP
will offer you a few selections to choose from or you can upload an image you’d like to use as your background. The possibilities are nearly endless. BEAUTIFY YOURSELF. Even the best of us occasionally roll out of bed to jump on a call, and that’s when filters might come in handy.
Zoom’s beauty filter isn’t as sophisticated as other apps like Instagram, but it’s useful in a pinch. From settings, go to “Video” and check the box for “Touch Up My Appearance.” Zoom will soften the focus on your camera, making your skin glow and reducing any unsightly blemishes or imperfections you feel self- conscious about.
REACT WITH EMOJIS. If you’re on a call that requires participants to be muted or have video turned off, like a company-wide meeting, then you may still be tempted to react to the information you’re hearing. You can do just that by using emojis. Click the “Reactions” tab at the bottom of the meeting screen and choose the emoji that matches your reaction. Kevin Eikenberry and Wayne Turmel are the co-founders of the Remote Leadership Institute, an organization that demonstrates how leadership hasn’t changed over the years, but rather, what’s changed is how one leads. Now, they’ve created the “Three O Model” and brought it to life in their co-authored book. The model refocuses leaders to think about the elements of leadership that remain unchanged by a remote work setup: outcomes, others, and ourselves. By focusing on those three factors, leaders can better utilize technology as a tool rather than a distraction, and they will be equipped to navigate their team members from wherever they are.

How Igloo Supports Human Ambition
In times of unusual change or stress, reflecting on businesses that have built a foundation for decades and remain the same in the face of adversity can be eye-opening. Igloo is one such company, and they aren’t changing what they do because they’ve always been about supporting their customers in achieving their ambitions. The long-standing, go-to brand for portable coolers was born from a modest metalworking shop in 1947. It developed into such a subtly useful brand that its true importance in redefining how the American family lives, works, and plays goes largely unthought of. Their first coolers were initially developed as a way to quickly bring clean water to work sites, but the business soon developed into building super- functional ice chests. It’s likely that the family outdoor recreation movement of the 20th century would not have been possible without Igloo’s simple but meaningful intentions. The company made it possible for activities like cross-country summer road trips to regularly bring families closer together. Today, Igloo employs over 1,500 people and sells more than 500 products. They’ve come a long way since the days of coolers, but they’ve always been dedicated to never losing sight of their original goal: creating products that enable the pursuit of happiness, however someone wants to define it. Whether it’s through work or play, Igloo’s goal is to be at your side, making the experience better. In light of current times, when users of Igloo products aren’t able to get out into the world as frequently, Igloo is making sure to support communities in other ways. During March and April, Igloo donated 100% of profits from all sales of Playmate coolers purchased through their website to the CDC Foundation’s Emergency Response Fund. Their goal was not only to deliver needed resources to the CDC Foundation but also to embolden American manufacturing during one of its toughest times. Igloo stands as a true symbol for how humans will always persevere to achieve more.
Tony Kelley has been with AZCOMP for 15 years! He’s no stranger to our monthly newsletter but hasn’t been interviewed in a while. We wanted to catch up with someone who’s been with us since nearly the beginning and take a look at the company through his eyes. When Tony first started at AZCOMP as a support technician, he was one of only three. “The whole company had about seven people back then,” Tony says. “I remember when the support team’s room was so small that you had to look behind you when you moved your chair to make sure you didn’t hit anyone.” When our support team started to grow a few years later, that’s when Tony stepped into the role of support manager. “I left a corporate company with hundreds of employees to jump into the always risky world of a startup,” Tony remembers. “Sometimes the rigid structure that my previous job provided was useful, but I realized I wanted to do something more meaningful. I wanted to work somewhere where I wasn’t just a number, where I could be part of something that was growing.” Since Tony’s arrival, AZCOMP has certainly grown. We’ve added more departments, hired more managers, and put new systems in place. But the one thing we’ve been dedicated to holding onto is our small family environment. “Back then I called us a mom-and-pop shop,” Tony says. “We’re much bigger now, but that mom-and-pop feeling hasn’t gone anywhere. That’s why I’ve been here for 15 years.” The most impactful change Tony has seen at AZCOMP since he was last interviewed is our dedication to putting together a truly excellent team. “AZCOMP has grown to understand that while skills are important, looking past them to truly see the person behind the resume is more important,” he explains. “Getting to know our staff as people, not just cogs in a machine, means we can help them adapt quickly, set meaningful goals, and integrate with our family comfortably.” When we have mindful team members like Tony, it’s easy to create an atmosphere that puts people first. In 1666, Christopher Wren was commissioned to rebuild St. Paul’s Cathedral in London after a horrible fire destroyed most of the city. During the rebuilding, Wren observed the working practices of three bricklayers. He asked each of them the same question: “What are you doing?” The first bricklayer said, “I’m working.” The second bricklayer said, “I’m building a wall.” The third bricklayer said, “I’m building a cathedral to The Almighty.”

A different book, this one written in 1899 by Leader Scott and titled “The Cathedral Builders: The Story of a Great Masonic Guild” says that “the names of the builders are unknown to us, and we need not trouble to seek them; a generation and era is here with all its soul made visible, with all its vigorous and fruitful activity.” Some days, you find yourself just clocking in and out. The everyday routine can feel unengaging or dull. You’re just “working.” Other days, things feel full speed ahead, and you’re all in. You’re “building a cathedral to The Almighty.” But the reality is that we have a choice. We can either lay bricks or build cathedrals. Doing the right thing, despite which bricklayer we feel like that day, contributes to the foundation of the bigger picture. We may not always see it, but the work we all do in every single department has a purpose and sets the stage for our customers to be great at what they do. Our work is not unnoticed; it’s fruitful. We encourage each other to understand that, and it’s what our core value We Do the Right Thing really means to us.
In the book “Building Cathedrals: The Power of Purpose,” author Greg Coker writes about this story as a metaphor for guiding life. He uses the “cathedral” as an expression of purpose, one that each person must discover in order to be successful. Coker uses the bricklayers as examples of encouragement to never underestimate your ability to realize the power and responsibility you have in creating success.
This great story of the workers who contributed to rebuilding London has been told over many centuries, but no one has ever
