For instance, “When you are tempted to lose your temper say, ‘I have a good temper.’ Affirm your truthfulness u n d e r all circum stances” (Teach Us to Pray, p. 1 1 0 ). The scriptural way would be to acknowledge to God your bad tem per and ask Him to give you con trol over it and to help you to exercise it only for right, and in this way to bring glory, not shame, to His name. Thousands of Chris tians can testify to this kind of overcoming. “ But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Here are the denials to be re peated silently several times a day “ not with a strained anxiety to get something out of them, but trying calmly to realize the mean ing of the words spoken: ‘There is no evil (or devil). There is no real ity or life or intelligence apart from Spirit. Pain, sickness, poverty, old age and death are not real, and they have no power over me. There is nothing in all the universe for me to fear’ ” (Lessons in Truth, p. 35). This denial of reality is almost indistinguishable from Christian Science although Unity steadfastly insists (in spite of the above) that they do not deny reality of sin, sickness, etc. Fillmore elaborated on these de nials in Christian Healing, pp. 150, 250,251: “ 1. I deny that I have inherited disease, sickness, igno rance or any mental limitation whatsoever. 2. I deny that I am a child of the flesh. I deny all be lief in evil, for God made all that really is and pronounced it good. 3. Therefore no such deception as a belief in evil can darken my clear understanding of Truth. 4. I deny that the sins and omissions of my ancestors can reflect upon me in any way. Selfishness, envy, mal ice, jealousy, pride, avarice, arro gance, cruelty, hypocrisy, obsti nacy and revenge are no part of CONTINUED
