We Need to Have a Talk ... WHEN DO YOU GET A SECOND OPINION ON YOUR CASE? Our Office, Our Families, Our Clients ... We Work to Make a Difference in People’s Lives
We recently took a family trip to London and Spain and had a wonderful time. But the travel part? That was less great, especially on the way back. We flew with two different airlines, taking a commuter airline from Barcelona to London to make our connecting flight back to Orlando. We got to the airport in Spain, and there were mechanical problems and delays. Talk about a warning sign! Then, they had to send a new plane to get us. Another warning sign! Then, the new plane had mechanical issues with the hydraulic lift. Warning sign number three … and sure enough, we missed our connecting flight. It got me thinking about the “warning signs” in my own line of work, signs that you need to get a second opinion on your legal matter. We meet people all the time for second opinions on claims that they’ve taken to other attorneys first. Most of the time, they don’t know when to seek help from another lawyer. I’ve noticed a few specific warning signs from helping out these clients, and I’d like to share them with you. One warning sign that you might want another opinion from a different law firm is if you haven’t had any follow-up from the lawyers and their team on your case. If you met with them months ago, and they said they would gather information and do interviews, but they haven’t talked to you since, it might be a good idea to ask another attorney about your claim. This is especially true if you try to make an appointment with the original firm and can’t get one. Similarly, if you have finished your medical treatment and informed your attorney,
but they haven’t made any claims on the insurance company, you need to find out what’s going on. And if you’re on year three of the four-year statute of limitations and the attorney has sat on the claim, you need to get someone else to look at your case.

If an attorney tells you that they want to take your case, or that it’s a great case, but they don’t have time to do so, go somewhere else. If it really is a great case they’ll make time. They’re probably just letting you down easy and don’t want to tell you the truth, which is that they don’t think they can help you. The good news is, that’s just their opinion. Go get a second one. At the end of the day, it never hurts to have someone else look at your case. And if you see the warning signs up ahead, don’t feel bad about politely telling your lawyer, “We need to have a talk ...” and then finding another attorney. – Wade Coye

These things can be pretty cut-and-dried “you need a new lawyer” situations. Often, though, the truth is more complicated. For example, it’s not uncommon for a lawyer to accept a case and look to make an insurance claim, but then be unable to find insurance to make a claim against. This happens all the time in situations where the at-fault driver in an auto accident is uninsured and you don’t have uninsured motorist coverage on your own policy. In this situation, get copies of everything your attorney has prepared and take

They soon realize the coin only grants half of what they wish for, and an unplanned vacation to the Sahara, followed by chaos in King Arthur’s court, is just a one of the hilarious misadventures this family must overcome together. Our Firm Loves to Serve!
Last month, some members of the Coye Law Firm family volunteered at the Orange County Bar Association’s Wills for Heroes event to say THANK YOU to the all the first responders in our community. Each hero got to sit down one on one with an attorney to prepare their wills and ask any questions. There
were also notaries and witnesses on site, which allowed all participants
to leave with a fully executed legal will.
“[Many of] the first responders were thanking us so much,” said Attorney Ursula Remy. “But in reality, we should have been thanking them.”

A REMOTE POSSIBILITY? Orlando leads the nation in a lot of areas, but our advancements in telemedicine are really getting attention. A few months ago, the Orlando Sentinel ran an article on our Orlando VA Medical Center, highlighting the amazing work that can be done remotely. As you know, last month we talked about the ways the “remote” trend is affecting our field, allowing us to represent clients in cases in other states, and even allowing people in other states to work for our offices. But the technology of the VA Center is truly futuristic. Imagine this: You get injured in a car accident near where you live, in a rural part of the state. You head diagnoses and procedural walk-throughs. Devices are being created that allow surgeons and other medical doctors to operate remotely, using controls not dissimilar to those in a video game. Connecting virtually just makes sense for a host of situations, but especially when it comes to noninvasive procedures like remote psychological counseling, which is occurring today. The Future of Telemedicine Is Here
to your nearest medical clinic, which is suitable for general ailments, but not so great for unique injuries. But that’s okay, because using technology, the people at your local clinic scan your injuries and send all the data to expert physicians in a larger city about eight hours’ drive away. Those doctors know exactly what to do, and they walk the staff at your local center through the procedures in real time, using remote viewing technology similar to Skype.
Perhaps best of all, telemedicine means that people don’t have to leave their hometown to get expert physical care. That means less time away from work, less time on the road, and less money spent on travel expenses. Those concerns are important, and we look forward to seeing the future of remote work in all industries!

SUMMER CRAB ROLL
Start your summer off fresh with this sandwich from the sea.
Ingredients
•
2 soft rolls, split down the center like hot dog buns Green leaf lettuce leaves (for serving)

8 ounces fresh or canned crabmeat 2 tablespoons mayonnaise

Kosher salt

Freshly ground white pepper
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, room temperature

4. Place a large leaf of lettuce in each bun. 5. Add crabmeat mixture and season with pepper, if desired. 6.

The Festival of the Sea is a sure-to-please aquatic event at Orlando Festival Park on June 17. It’s not often that an event has a kids-specific area and a beer garden for mom and dad, so this event is bound to be fun. You’ll enjoy live music, delicious seafood, and vendors of all varieties. Of course, the weather will be stunning too, so everything happens outside! Father’s Day is this month, and that means many great opportunities to celebrate. Dads get free admission to the Orange County
History Center, the Harry P. Leu Gardens, the Orlando Brewing Tour, the Brevard Zoo, the Mennello Museum, and more. Don’t forget to check out other dad-friendly locales including the Museum of Military History in Kissimmee, or the sharks at the Marine Science Center in Ponce Inlet. If dad is more of a stay-local type, we suggest grabbing some bait at one of our local shops (or from your own backyard), loading up the beer cooler and fishing poles, and visiting any one of the Fab Five Lakes in town!
