BLACK COUNTRY SCHOOL GAMES

The festival was the grand finale of this year’s School Games competitions and included 8 sports; an opening and closing ceremony and a variety of sporting events for all ages. We have competed over the academic year to win our regional competitions and qualify through to this event. The festival saw over 1400 young people from across 80 Black Country schools taking part. This year’s games also raised money for the charity ‘Smile for Joel’. Abbey got through to the finals in both Tag Rugby and Tri-Golf - a fantastic achievement in itself. Over the course of the day, the teams competed in more games, this time representing Sandwell and facing opposition from Walsall, Wolverhampton and Dudley. Everyone had fun participating in such an amazing event. Our Tri-Golfers finished 8th overall, whilst the Tag Rugby team finished a fantastic 4th in the Black Country! Well Done! LEAGUE CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS The Football team have been competing in the local school football league again this year, playing games after school in Warley Woods and away at other schools. The football they have played in the league this year has been a pleasure to watch. They won every game and scored a massive 37 goals in just 5 league games. As a result of finishing top of their league, they qualified for the ‘playoffs', where they would have to play a semi-final and final against the top two teams in the other Sandwell league to decide which school would be ‘Champion of Champions’. Abbey won both semi-final and final in emphatic style, making history by being the only school ever to win the championship, two years running! Well Done!
