NEW REPRESENTATIVES Our new School Council has been elected across our school and met for the first time last week. Each member received their own personal ‘School Council’ badge. The children are a very important link in our school and their collective voice is an important two-way vehicle for developing our school. The first task is to look at revising our school’s vision, values and ethos. Parents too are going to be involved through an on-line survey during our first Parents’ Evening during early October. After this, the School Council will be looking to work on an Abbey DVD promoting on-line safety in all its forms. This, along with many other tasks, will keep us all busy and this important work will help lead to making an application for The Speaker’s Award in 2016-17 - for making a difference at our school. Please look at our School Council’s work as part of our ‘Class Pages’ section of our website. PROCESSION OF LIGHT Bearwood Action for Refugees was started by a small group of local Bearwood Residents who were dismayed by the plight of Syrian refugees. Over the past 12 months, they have completed a number of events to raise funds for Leros' Solidarity Network who support refugees on this Greek island. On the 1st of October, they are planning a Procession of Light through Warley Woods. The children at Abbey have taken part in a school assembly this week to raise awareness of the charity and to help make torch lanterns. Why not support the cause by joining 'Bearwood Action of Refugees' Procession of Light on Saturday 1st October, 6pm in Warley Woods? ABBEY PRAYER GROUP Abbey Prayer Group meets once a month at Warley Methodist Church to pray for the school. If you would like to join us, we will be meeting on Tuesday 4th October from 2-3pm.
