FAMILY FUN Last Friday saw the Junior playground transformed for the Summer Fair. The weeks of preparation by Friends of Abbey came together for a fun-filled afternoon for all the family. The Food and Drink Zone provided popcorn, samosas, cakes, drinks, ice cream and delicious hot dogs and burgers. While in the Body Art Zone there was a chance to chill out with mehndi, nail art, hair braids, face painting and tattoos. Children loved the bouncy castle and a chance to cuddle the giant tiger. There were plenty of fun games too - Hunt for Gold, Sponge the Teacher, Mario and Yoshi games, Guess the Sweets, Splat the Rat, Hook a Duck, Lucky Dip, the Pimms game, Penalty Shoot Out, Bottle Hoopla and two Tombolas. We also welcomed local stallholders to sell their wares and performers to show off their talents on our stage. As well as a great afternoon of fun, the Fair also raised £2114.14 for the School. Well done everyone - looking forward to next year! Thank you to everyone who entered the Smarty Plants competition. The winning entries were: first prize - £15 Izzy Philpott and Phoebe Ash, 2nd prize - £10 Harry, Oscar and Josh Sharpe, 3rd prize - £5 Joseph Bastable. The winners receive vouchers to spend at Webb’s of Bearwood. Well done to Sophie Cole in 3V, who guessed the correct number of sweets in the jar. There were 91. Sophie wins the jar of sweets. Thank you to all the parents, Year 6 helpers and teachers - (especially those that volunteered to be sponged!) Also to those people who donated items for the Fair and came to join in the fun. Special thanks to Julian Kahn (poster design), the Choir, Gareth Langston (performer), ex pupil Metz Jnr (performer), Webb’s of Bearwood (prizes), Mrs Collins (Finance), Bearwood Co-op (food), Mrs Flanagan (compère), Darren Moss (Hunt the Gold creator), John Garret of Greening the Grey (judge), Bearwood Builders (sand), Mr Oakes, Mr Edwards and Mr Smith (set-up and logistics), the Nandra family (samosas), the Pike family (Pimms), Sue O’Dell (sausages) and Allied Bakeries (bread). Friends of Abbey would like to thank everyone who entered and helped on the day, to make the Great Abbey Bake Off a huge success. Creative cookery led to a fantastic range of exciting and inventive cakes raising £250 alone! Congratulations to all who entered.
