Your Thoughts Molly Peters Project Mentor(s): Andrea Eklund

What Comes to Mind? is a collection of three designs and I will be showcasing Design 1, Your Thoughts . The purpose of this project is to showcase my technical skills through the completion of an original garment design meant to portray a playful and thrifty look. Inspiration stemmed from the thrifting and upcycling trend that has been gaining traction along with wanting to incorporate sustainability into the designs. The design is meant to invoke self-reflection on one’s own life and practices. In order to create this garment, extensive work was put in from sketching the design, taking the model’s measurements, draping the garment on a dress form, patterning the garments, adjusting the pattern to the model’s measurements, to sewing the final garments. As part of sewing the final garments, techniques such as flat felled seams, invisible stitching, and the construction a ruff collar were used. The garments materials consist of 100% silk neck ties, lace polyester blend, 100% cotton denim, thread, buttons, jeans buttons, closed-end zipper, close-end invisible zipper, open-end invisible zipper, hook and eye, and ribbon. This is one of three designs for my spring collection. My collection can be seen at the 30th Annual CWU Fashion Show brought to you by the Apparel, Textiles & Merchandising program in conjunction with the Theatre Department on June 6th at 3pm and 7pm in Milo Smith Theatre. The purpose of Kallos is to embody Aphrodite's divine beauty and grace through a modern silhouette that captures the goddess's iconic draped outfits. My design was inspired by Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love and beauty. I began with sketching, then took model measurements, draped the design on a dress form, translated it into a flat pattern, and conducted fittings to refine the final look. The organza toga was pleated using the saree pleating technique and hand-tacked to the garment. The bodice has boning for structure and support. The bodice and mini skirt are made from 100% polyester crepe back satin weave in a faint pink. The draped toga is made of blush-pink 100% polyester plain-weave organza. The sheer overlay is white 100% polyester plain-weave organza. My notions include an invisible zipper, hook-and-eye closures, snaps, pearls, boning, and interfacing.
