Entice Miranda Marquardt Project Mentor(s): Andrea Eklund
This design is called Entice and is a part of my collection Allurement, defined as something that attracts or lures. It is intended to draw the viewer in, encouraging a closer look at the intricate details while balancing boldness with delicacy in a single look. Inspired by vintage burlesque costumes of the 20th century, particularly their use of fringe, lace, and beading, I aimed to merge this expressive detailing with women’s evening wear. To bring this vision to life, I began by taking my model’s measurements, then draped the dress, created a sample, conducted fittings, and finalized the garment in the chosen fashion fabric. Materials include 100% cotton woven fabric, 100% polyester Raschel knit lace, rosary beads, an invisible zipper, thread, and a metal brooch. This is one of three designs for my spring collection. My collection can be seen at the 30th Annual CWU Fashion Show brought to you by the Apparel, Textiles & Merchandising program in conjunction with the Theatre Department on June 6th at 3pm and 7pm in Milo Smith Theatre. The collection is titled That’s the Girl! , and this look is named Smitty. Each design is inspired by iconic roles played by Audrey Hepburn, with this look specifically referencing her character in the 1953 film Roman Holiday . The process to create this look started with sketching out sketching ideas and concepts, after I had a design chosen, I took my model’s measurements and began the process of draping patterns. Once my first-draft patterns were done, I then used my patterns to create a sample of the look and fit it on my model. Once the changes from the fitting were applied to the patterns, I moved on to making the final garments. I used several different techniques in creating this look. The dress was draped, meaning the patterns were made on a dress form, whereas the jacket was made by flat patterning and sloper manipulation. The dress is made of raschel knit lace and textured polyester sateen, the jacket is made of pile knit faux fur. This is one of four designs for my spring collection.
