Purpose : The purpose of this design is to merge my interest in business wear with an alternative style. I aim to introduce more distinctive silhouettes that allow Gen Z consumers, who value self-expression through fashion, to dress professionally while still showcasing individuality. Process : This design was inspired by my time studying abroad in Italy, particularly a visit to the Armani museum, where I developed an appreciation for sleek, tailored business wear. Building these inspirations, I sketched and refined unique shapes before taking model measurements. I then flat patterned the shirt and shorts from a Sloper, created a muslin sample for fitting, adjusted, and completed the final garment in the chosen fabric. Techniques : Some techniques I used in this garment are pleating; used on the button up top on the sides of the button placket. Another technique I used is gathering; this was used to create the volume and texture on the shorts and the decorations attached to the pleats on the shirt. Materials : 97% Cotton 3% polyester blend twill weave fabric, 90%Wool 10% polyester blend twill weave fabric, Zipper, 100% polyester Rachelle knit lace, Ribbon, Buttons, Buckle and grommets. This is one of three designs for my spring collection. My collection can be seen at the 30th Annual CWU Fashion Show brought to you by the Apparel, Textiles & Merchandising program in conjunction with the Theatre Department on June 6th at 3pm and 7pm in Milo Smith Theatre. This resulted in the development of two garments: the Harrington Jacket top and Barrel Jeans bottom. The process of this design started with inspiration from clean street wear and oversized fashion. Next, I moved to researching textiles, then creating garment sketches. After this, I obtained model measurements, flat- patterned the designs, created samples out of muslin fabric, completed fittings, adjusted my patterns, and finally created the garments out of my chosen textiles. I used various techniques in the creation of these designs, such as flat patterning, pleating, and darts to form the desired garment shape. Textiles used for the Harrington Jacket include embossed upholstery vinyl, black weave lining fabric of 98% polyester and 2% spandex, and fusible interfacing. Notions incorporated are a full front metal zipper. The Barrel Jeans are constructed from 14.5oz black twill weave denim of 100% cotton and fusible interfacing. Notions included are a metal zipper fly and a jean-style tack button. This is one of three designs for my spring collection.
