Biblical Theology of The New Testament By Charles Caldwell Ryrie

According to the author, this book grew out of the necessity of prepar ing lectures in Biblical Theology. In the introduction (pp. 11-24) the writ er presents in a concise manner the meaning of Biblical Theology. He de fines the subject, and indicates its re lation to Apologetics, New Testa ment Introduction, Exegesis, History of Christian Doctrine, and Systematic Theology. A brief treatment of the value of such a study is also included in this section. The main content of the book (pp. 25-367) is divided into seven parts dealing with the Theology of the Synoptics, Acts, James, Paul, He brews, Peter, Jude, and John. In addition, a brief historical sketch of each New Testament author and his writings is presented. To receive full benefit from this work, it is suggest ed by the author that it be studied with the Bible always and with com mentaries frequently. This systematic approach to Bibli cal Theolegy of the New Testament, according to the writer, provides the best way to preach and to teach doc trine to the people. “ For through it,” the author declares, “they will realize that theology is a part of the very fabric of the Bible itself and not some thing that has been forced upon it or read into it” (p. 11). It is my per sonal opinion that this volume will be of great value to the student of Biblical Theology in the New Testa ment. Dr. Ryrie is the President of Philadelphia College of Bible. 384 pages; cloth; Moody Press, Chicago; $5.00.—Reviewed by Nickolas Kurta- neck. Ruth, A Life of Love and Loyalty by Dr. Charles E.
