The Lifetime Achievement Award recognises an individual that has enhanced the plumbing and heating sector through their dedication and tireless hard work, and this year the NIPHA celebrated a gentleman that has certainly spent his life doing exactly that. Norman Beggs, chairman at Beggs & Partners, has over 50 years in the industry and is a leading figure in the NI plumbing and heating sector. His incredible history in the family firm is a testament to his work ethic and competence. It is hard to believe it all started with his first job loading his father’s lorry at the family business. Norman worked in every department of the company, from the trade counter to pricing, and then became a sales representative, a buyer and finally director in 1975. In 1986, during his first year as Managing Director, Beggs & Partners quadrupled its profit and went through a great expansion, a
real turning point for the family business. Beggs & Partners moved from 45 employees and two branches to a staff of 150 and a network of five branches by the time he retired from the business in 2010. While remaining true to his father’s principles, Norman brought stability to Beggs & Partners during periods of recession and uncertainty, and he displayed the prudency and confidence necessary to meet the industry’s
challenges head-on. Very few people in the industry would be as deserving of this prize. In recognition of a life dedicated to work, the NIPHA panel of judges and senior figures from within the industry have unanimously decided to celebrate Norman with this prestigious accolade.
