W ell, it is hard to believe another tutor training event has passed us by once again. The event just tops off the academic year. Tutors are a shop window for the CIPP and each year they represent the CIPP to educate both the payroll and pensions professions. The event was opened by Eira Hammond, the CIPP chair, and Dr Sue Smith, CIPP associate director of professional education. The event, which was held at the Radisson Blu East Midlands, was well attended. It’s not only a professional development event, but also a huge thank you from the CIPP for the dedicated hard work tutors have put in. It is the time of year when all tutors network and meet up with colleagues and for some, who over the years have built up firm friendships that will stay with them for ever, all a result of working together towards a common aim to educate individuals and guide them on their way to becoming true professionals with letters after their name. Tutors should be very proud indeed. There is a dedicated team of people behind the planning of this event to include the CIPP events and education services teams and it was a pleasure to see all that planning come to fruition on the day itself. Representatives from both teams ran the event and were there to ensure all attendees were well looked after – and I

can honestly say that all enjoyed the event; so, thank you team. We work hard but in true traditional style we play hard and the social evening was well deserved. The evening was opened by Jason Davenport, CIPP vice chair, and this year we had the privilege of dancing the night away to the Queen tribute band ‘Queen II’. The Foundation Degree in both Payroll and Pensions Administration and Management would not work without tutor interaction and the fact that we had such a great attendance shows your dedication. For this we thank you. Each year we endeavour to provide tutors with a learning and development opportunity which also provides activities to log their continual professional development. There was a real buzz about the event, highlights being: ● Key updates and new tutor session presented by the CIPP education team comprising Toni Green, education operations manager, and Mike Aldous, education support and development specialist. ● Session on The Learning Professional course presented by Lizabeth Lay, Foundation Degree and MSc tutor, and Dr Sue Smith, associate director of professional education. ● Motivational session ‘Our Journey’ presented by Pam Hadfield, work force development fellow, University of Derby

● An update on Local Government Pension Scheme pensions from CIPP tutor, Karl White. I had the privilege of announcing the awards for successful completion for the Certificate in Education approved by Heart of Worcester College, which were presented by Eira Hammond. Congratulations to the following tutors: ● Andrea Roe

● Denise Pursey ● Dawn Bartley

● Sarah Meek ● Lisa Thomas Thanks to the team

I wish to acknowledge and thank the team headed up by Mark during the day and Leah in the evening, and not forgetting Jack who went home to get his x-box, so some could watch the football. The CIPP team comprised: organiser Stacey Graham, associate director of events and administration; Lynne Rocks, events team leader; Chloe Townley, education services team leader; Vicky Hilton, senior education coordinator; and Laura Heiss-Jones and Brad Carpenter, education services coordinators. It was extremely satisfying to see new tutors attending the event – welcome to you all. The interactive sessions were very positive and the passion for the tutor role
