Snead State defeated Coastal Alabama-South in overtime 83-80 on Friday, March 10 to claim the ACCC Championship and NJCAA South District title. Boaz Standouts Named 2023 Ledger Leaders certified in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Cody is a member

Pierce The Sports Ledger Each year The Sports Ledger honors area athletes who are Juniors this year for their athletic and academic accomplishments, as well as their service to the community. This year’s Ledger Leader awards kick off with a pair of students from Boaz High School who are both well deserving of the annual honor. Cody McCormick and Harley Wyatt’s accomplishments both in athletics and the classroom have landed them the inaugural spotlight this year. The remainder of the 2023 Ledger Leader awards will be announced in the April print edition. Cody currently has a 4.268 GPA and plays baseball for the Pirates. He has been a member of the Boaz program since his Freshman year and he is a starting pitcher. He has also participated in travel baseball since 2013. Academically, Cody was in the Top 10 at the end of both his Freshman and Sophomore years at Boaz, with over a 100 average in almost every class. During his Freshman year at Boaz he earned the College Prep Geometry Award. As a Sophomore he earned outstanding grades in college prep Chemistry and English, and he has taken dual Enrollment US History courses. Additionally, he is

said Harley, adding that she plans to pursue a career in Physical Therapy. “After Snead, I plan to go to UAH for two years of undergrad, then I plan to go to UAB to obtain my doctorate in Physical Therapy.” Outside of the classroom, Harley has spent part of time helping out as a volunteer for Alacare Hospice. “I would do arts and crafts projects with the special needs adults from the Marshall County Ark to give to hospice patients,” said Harley. “During my volunteer time at Alacare Hospice I would also go sit with hospice patients to offer companionship and comfort.” She also worked with a community outreach organization called Parents as Teachers and served food at a Thanksgiving lunch. Harley is a member of Calvary Baptist Church. “I annually help support the Christmas Coalition program,” she added. “Every Christmas I volunteer with my church to purchase Christmas gifts for underprivileged children for the Angel Tree.” Be sure to check out the April 2023 print edition of The Sports Ledger to read more about other area student athletes who are helping to make difference in their respective communities.

Outside of school, Cody has helped with the St. Paul United Methodist Church building beds for Children in Need and with cleanup efforts following a tornado in March 2020. Harley is a three sport standout for the Lady Pirates, competing in Softball, Volleyball and Basketball. She has been the catcher for the Boaz High School varsity softball team since eighth grade. Harley has been a hitter on the Pirates varsity volleyball team since ninth grade. Her efforts on the volleyball court helped her earn All- Area Team honors in the Area 13 Tournament. Academically, Harley sports a 4.31 GPA and she has made the “A” Honor Roll every year of middle school and high school. She is a member of the Beta Club, National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta. During her Freshman and Sophomore years at Boaz, she served as Vice President of the SGA, as a junior she is President of the HOSA Club. “I plan on graduating from Snead State before I graduate from high school,”
