Welcoming the group, Area Sales Manager Lukasz Chruslinski ex- plained Mark Andy’s activities in Poland and Europe and why the company had chosen to locate its new European showroom and demonstration facility inWarsaw. Introduction To Labels By way of introduction to labels and label printing technology, the students were given a short history lesson that traced the important stages from the simple hand printed beginnings in the 1700s to the so-

In preparation for the visit, the students had created a variety of their own labels so they could see the full process of production from initial design to the final printed label. managed by Morgan Stanley Capital Partners (MSCP), the Private Equity team within Morgan Stanley In- vestment Management. PPC represents the first add- on acquisition for Fisher since Morgan Stanley’s investment in February 2017. Based in Buffalo Grove, Illinois, Fisher produces ad- vanced and technical flexible packaging products, which can be used in the cleanroom and healthcare, food and industrial end markets. The company is engaged in the printing and con- verting of flexible films, bags and plastic pouches. It is a third-generation company; it was founded by Don Fisher, and its management team now includes his sons Michael and Brad and Michael’s sons Kyle and Brandon. The company consists of two divisions: Fish- er Container Corp. and Precision Clean Products. Fisher Container is an environmentally progres- sive manufacturer that has introduced a number of initiatives, including installing a catalytic oxidizer that has been updated to a regenerative thermal oxidizer, which runs on natural gas to reach oper- ating temperature and then uses VOC emissions as fuel. It also changed the plant lighting to a low en- ergy f luorescent for 25 percent reduction in power consumption. “PPC enhances Fisher’s position in the food market with its unique set of capabilities that has translated into a favorable position with blue chip and innova- tive food manufacturers,” said Morgan Stanley Capital Partners Managing Director Eric Kanter. “We plan to build upon the successes of these two businesses,” said Mark Bye, Managing Director and Op- erating Partner of Morgan Stanley Capital Partners. FINAT European Label Forum Wraps In Berlin

Flexo Market News

I NTERNET D IRECTORY

At this year’s European Label Forum in Berlin, which took place June 7-9, and was organized by the international label industry association FINAT, man- agement across the value chain came together to re- view and debate the past year’s developments and track the pathway for the future. The label industry recovered strongly from the global economic recession, with self-adhesive label- stock consumption growing in Europe overall be- tween 2010 and 2016 at a cumulative 22.9 percent. While 72 percent of brand owners surveyed in FINAT’s latest (2016) edition of the European RADAR

market analysis stated they would not be migrating from self-adhesive labels as their core technology choice, many label converters have broadened their production repertoire, alongside this traditional route to success, to include other popular label production options today — such as sleeve labels, flexible pack- aging, and in-mould labels — to create new business and enhance their status with demanding brand- owner customers. Attracting New Talent Digital print technologies have joined narrow web flexo and litho print as a mainstream form of produc- tion. FINAT’s 2016 surveys for its RADAR analysis confirm that today about 10 percent of European label market sales revenue is today produced digital- ly. An additional feature of the Label Forum agenda was to dig deeper into the subject in a presentation of the findings of a special qualitative and quantita- tive research study commissioned by FINAT into the current and future development of digital versus con- ventional printing in Europe. Apart from assessing the scenarios and possible business drivers for the next 3-5 years with the indus- try’s present leadership, the European Label Forum 2017 also saw the launch of a combined FINAT and national associations initiative to ensure that young talent — the next generation of managers and opera- tors — is attracted to the label industry.
