Meet Operations Manager Kerri Gaylord! Before joining the company back in 2006, when we were still Idaho Properties, I earned a living doing various sales jobs. Over the years, my skill set grew, and I gained more In my free time — although, does any mom truly have free time? — I like to read, people-watch, and hang out with my kids. When they grow up and leave Mama’s TEAM MEMBER SPOTLIGHT

experience. Eventually, I was offered my current position as the operations manager.

nest, I will probably start finding hobbies or activities to get involved with, but for now, I’m focusing on my kids. They are all at really fun ages, and I enjoy watching them grow into young adults, even if they still grumble when they have to do chores.

The best part of my job is that I get to work with a fantastic group of people every day. If you ask anyone in the office, they will agree that no other team can compete with ours. My co-workers are what make my job worthwhile. Another great aspect of my job is that I get to help others evolve in their careers. It’s incredibly rewarding knowing that I assist in my co-workers’ growth in some way. As time goes on, I look forward to finding ways that I can evolve in my position, too. As we continue to grow, one of my biggest goals is to be more confident when speaking in front of large groups of people — or at least to be able to fake it a bit. The only way I can reach this goal is to practice. “My co-workers are what make my job worthwhile.” When I’m not at work, you can find me spending time with my three wonderful children: 16-year-old Gavin, 12-year-old Jasmine, and 8-year-old Jason.

If there’s anything I want my clients to know, it’s that our success stems from theirs. The team at Realty ONE Group Professionals is dedicated to ensuring their clients have positive experiences while they’re in our hands. We want our clients to find their perfect homes and sell with great

success, and we all want to grow as individuals and professionals in the process. If there’s ever anything we can do to make the process smoother, we are always open to suggestions.

I hope you have a great Father’s Day. We’ll be seeing you soon.

Lay Some Shade on Me

The Best Vegetables to Plant in Shady Spots

KALE . Typically, kale does well in partial shade. When kale is grown in full shade, the leaves tend to be slightly smaller, but this can be offset by growing additional plants. (Hours of sun per day: 3–4)

There’s nothing quite like growing your own vegetables, but if your home doesn’t get the best sunlight, what can you do? It’s a problem many gardeners face. Even if you live in a sunny area, you may have a shady corner of the garden or side of the house going to waste. Fortunately, there are plenty of plants that do well in partial and full shade. As a general rule, leafy greens do better in shade and milder temperatures than other vegetables. Flowering plants and vines, such as cucumbers, peppers, and tomatoes, need more hours of sunlight per day in order to thrive — about six hours or more. HERBS . While many herbs, such as basil, are better suited for sunnier conditions, there are a few that will do great in shade. These include chives, cilantro, golden marjoram, mint, oregano, and parsley. (Hours of sun per day: 3)

PEAS . Like kale, when grown in shade, peas and beans won’t grow quite as full, and plants may take longer to mature, but with proper planning, you’ll still reap a plentiful harvest. Bush and dwarf varieties are recommended over their pole counterparts. (Hours of sun per day: 4–5)

POTATOES . Root vegetables, such as potatoes, carrots, and beets, will grow in partial shade, but they may take a few more weeks to mature, and they may

produce fewer vegetables. However, as most gardeners agree, the results are still worth the effort. (Hours of sun per day: 4–5) SPINACH . Like most leafy greens, spinach does very well in shade, particularly baby spinach. The plant will continue to produce leaves for an extended period of time if you regularly harvest the outer leaves. (Hours of sun per day: 3–4)

Jonnalee Shriver

Jonnalee’s daughter and Tim were neighbors, and although Jonnalee’s daughter had never worked with Tim in a professional

setting, she had enjoyed getting to know him personally. So Jonnalee gave Tim a call and told him about her desire to move.

“He was awesome. I called Tim and asked him to show me a house I had seen online,” said Jonnalee. “It was a Sunday morning, and he immediately dropped whatever he was doing and said that we could go see the house right then. It was as beautiful as the pictures, but I wasn’t quite convinced. He ended up showing me the house a couple more times and found out the answers to all of my questions.” “I think anybody would be pleased to work with him. Tim is fun, friendly, and does everything in his power to make the homebuying experience pleasant for his clients. It doesn’t matter how many times you ask to see a home or how many questions you have, Tim is willing and happy to do whatever he can for you.”

Before buying a home with Realty ONE Group Professionals, Jonnalee Shriver had a choice to make. Having worked with more than one REALTOR® in the area, Jonnalee wasn’t sure who she wanted to work with again, but it was time for her to move. However, when Jonnalee told her daughter about her plans to move, her daughter said that the best option was to forgo her previous REALTORS® and contact Tim Alberda.

Jonnalee closed on the beautiful home she found on the internet, and she couldn’t be more pleased with the process.

Thank you, Jonnalee, for your kind words about Tim. We hope you are loving your new home!

Ideally, vacation should be relaxing and worry-free, but preparing your home for your absence can be a source of stress. If you’re not asking anyone to housesit while you’re out of town, there are a few things you can do to make your home vacation-ready and give you and your family peace of mind while you’re gone.

for your support

MAKE YOUR HOME LOOK LIVED-IN

Unfortunately, an empty home is an invitation to burglars, so it’s a good idea to make sure your home looks occupied while you’re gone. Park your car inside the garage, ask a neighbor or friend to pick up your mail, and put at least one light in your house on a timer while you’re away. If you’re going to be gone for an extended period, consider installing a motion-activated floodlight or asking your neighbor to keep your lawn trimmed. Running appliances while you’re gone is a needless expense, and it can lead to costly problems upon your return. Consider unplugging your small appliances and electronic devices before you leave, and put your water heater on “vacation” mode. Make sure to turn off the water valves to the dishwasher, washing machine, and sinks, and set your thermostat to match the temperature outside. But make sure the temperature in your home is warm or cool enough to protect your pets, plants, or furniture. TAKE CARE OF APPLIANCES Before you go, make sure your smoke detectors are working properly, leave your emergency contact information with a neighbor, dispose of any food that could go bad before you return, take out the trash, and run the garbage disposal. If you have pets, arrange for a friend or neighbor to feed and exercise them as needed. Vacation should be fun and stress-free. If you follow the tips above, you can enjoy your trip without worrying about your home, and you’ll save yourself a headache upon your return. MISCELLANEOUS

3 Fathers Who Risked It All for Their Kids

Fathers Who Put Their Lives on the Line for Their Kids 3 Awesome Dads

This Father’s Day, thousands of dads will receive a “No. 1 Dad” mug to sip coffee out of at the office. But the following dads took that “No. 1” to a new level.

didn’t work, he leapt onto its back and started punching it in the face. When the bear finally released Gabriel, Greg threw rocks until it fled. His son was hurt but made a full recovery in the hospital over the coming weeks.

BRIAN MUNN GAVE HIS SON A LIVER TRANSPLANT.

ARTUR MAGOMEDOV SAVED HIS DAUGHTERS FROM ISIS.

When doctors discovered that baby Caleb Munn had a rare disease called biliary atresia, they told his parents that he was unlikely to survive past age 2 without a liver transplant. Luckily, his father was a perfect match, and he eagerly donated part of his liver in March 2015 to save his son’s life.

Artur Magomedov was devastated to discover that his wife had taken his 3- and 10-year-old daughters from their home in Dagestan under the cover of night, flown to Turkey, and crossed into Syria to join ISIS. But he resolved to get his kids back. After a long, hazardous journey, he arrived in Tabqa to embrace his two daughters. To leave the caliphate — under penalty of death — they hitched a ride to the border one night and crawled along a railway line until they were within 70 meters of the border. Then they ran under fire from Turkish border guards until they could scramble into tall grasses. After some help from the Russian consulate in Istanbul, they made it back home, together again and safe.

GREG ALEXANDER BATTLED A BEAR FOR HIS SON’S LIFE.

While camping in the backcountry of Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Greg Alexander was startled awake at dawn by the screams of his 16-year-old son, Gabriel. He rushed out of his hammock to see a black bear dragging his son away by the head. Without hesitation, he kicked the beast in the side, and when that
