Lorsqu’il fait beau, vous êtes nombreux à redonner du lustre à votre voiture. Pour certains, cela représente une perte de temps et un exercice complètement inutile. Pour d’autres, il s’agit d’une véritable thérapie. Chose certaine, les bienfaits à maintenir un véhicule propre sont nombreux. Afin de vous accompagner dans ce processus, voici quelques pièges à éviter afin de ne pas transformer l’exercice en cauchemar. D’abord, évitez d’attendre que des couches de saletés s’accumulent sur votre véhicule. Avec tous les détritus qu’elles peuvent contenir, ces dernières finissent par attaquer la cire protectrice jusqu’à atteindre la peinture. Ainsi, lorsqu’une flopée de moustiques écrasés recouvre l’avant de votre véhicule à la suite d’une randonnée nocturne, n’hésitez pas à procéder à un nettoyage, ne serait-ce que de la section concernée. La même logique s’applique lorsque vous vous apercevez qu’un oiseau a laissé un dépôt sur votre voiture; le plus rapidement ce dernier sera nettoyé, moins grands seront les risques que la peinture soit endommagée.
Concernant les produits nettoyants, évitez d’utiliser des produits d’entretien ménager comme des détergents à linge ou à vaisselle. Ces derniers ne sont pas conçus pour être utilisés sur une voiture et peuvent attaquer la couche de cire qui protège votre peinture.
Enfin, évitez à tout prix de laver votre voiture au soleil alors que sa surface est chaude. La chaleur accélère le processus de séchage de l’eau et du savon et favorise la formation de taches.
Better performance and more fuel efficiency Automatics continue to evolve
The development of direct fuel injection systems has enabled gasoline engines to be more fuel efficient in recent years. Nevertheless, even with the arrival of this technology gas engines are far from being as economical at the pump as hybrid or diesel engines. To reduce the appetites of these gas guzzlers, engineers have been concentrating on the development of new automatic gearboxes that will soon offer nine or even ten speeds. For example, Hyundai is presently working to develop a ten-speed gearbox for its Genesis and Equus models, which already benefit from an eight-speed transmission. In addition, Audi, Bentley, BMW, and Chrysler are all offering models with eight gears. Studies show that these allow gas savings of approximately 11 percent compared to six-speed gearboxes. In the domain of manual transmissions, Porsche has broken ranks in offering a gearbox with seven speeds. For the time being it is unlikely that compact and subcompact cars will come equipped with more than six gears, due to the lack of space under their hoods. This new technology is therefore limited to bigger cars, which explains why smaller car manufacturers are turning towards CVT transmissions (continuously variable transmission). Reliable, light, and compact, this type of transmission offers an infinite number of gear ratios in automatic or semi-automatic mode. Compared with manual gear boxes, most CVTs offer savings at the pump as well as improved acceleration times. The only drawbacks are that they entail an added expense at the time of purchase and some manufacturers haven’t yet found a way to reduce the amount of engine noise created during acceleration.
