pumps and five years later entered the parts washing business to increase the use of its pumps to meet the needs of the growing auto industry. It was in 1953 that the company began working with the emerging flexographic printing industry to create pumps, filters and accessories specifically for converters. In the 1960s, Graymills began developing pumps that were not merely adapted to printing but were specifically manufactured with inks, coatings, and the unique needs of the pressroom in mind. The company added an assembly and metal fabri- cating addition to the its facility and actively began to broaden its international business efforts. In the 1990s, Graymills engineered the first peri- staltic pump designed solely for printing, and it contin- ues to develop products for this ever-changing market. The company is unusually attuned to the needs of its customers and that philosophy has helped inform how the new facility was designed. “We pride our- selves on our ability to respond to our customers’ re- quests and to meet their individual needs,” said company President Craig Shields.“Customization is a cornerstone of our business.” “At the end of the day,” Shields concluded, “it’s all about addressing whatever pains our customers may be experiencing. Our focus has always been — and remains — on the ways in which we can solve the problems our customers are experiencing and on eliminating that pain once and for all.” Tomorrow’s Pressroom Focus For FTA Fall Conference Envisioning Tomorrow’s Pressroom will be a strat- egy session at the upcoming Flexographic Technical Association (FTA) Fall Conference, October 10-12 at The Galt House, Louisville, Kentucky.
