pumps and five years later entered the parts washing business to increase the use of its pumps to meet the needs of the growing auto industry. It was in 1953 that the company began working with the emerging flexographic printing industry to create pumps, filters and accessories specifically for converters. In the 1960s, Graymills began developing pumps that were not merely adapted to printing but were specifically manufactured with inks, coatings, and the unique needs of the pressroom in mind. The company added an assembly and metal fabri- cating addition to the its facility and actively began to broaden its international business efforts. In the 1990s, Graymills engineered the first peri- staltic pump designed solely for printing, and it contin- ues to develop products for this ever-changing market. The company is unusually attuned to the needs of its customers and that philosophy has helped inform how the new facility was designed. “We pride our- selves on our ability to respond to our customers’ re- quests and to meet their individual needs,” said company President Craig Shields.“Customization is a cornerstone of our business.” “At the end of the day,” Shields concluded, “it’s all about addressing whatever pains our customers may be experiencing. Our focus has always been — and remains — on the ways in which we can solve the problems our customers are experiencing and on eliminating that pain once and for all.” Tomorrow’s Pressroom Focus For FTA Fall Conference Envisioning Tomorrow’s Pressroom will be a strat- egy session at the upcoming Flexographic Technical Association (FTA) Fall Conference, October 10-12 at The Galt House, Louisville, Kentucky. The session is slated for Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 8:30 a.m., and it will kick off the third and final day of the program. “This session will give insight on how to shape your existing workforce and attract the right employees to enhance your capabilities,” said Conference Co-Chair, Sean Teufler. “Attendees will leave with an array of ideas to get employees trained, engaged and produc- tive so basic skills are common, and extraordinary skills are developed. Attendees will also benefit in learning how to add employees with the right skills.” Presentations and speakers are: • Engaging Production Staff — Jason Roberts, Label Technology • A New Paradigm in Press Operator Training — Ted Biggs,AWT Labels & Packaging • GoGetter - James Stone,VinEquities, Inc.

iPQ Workflow — Integrating Machines, Processes & Departments Once a facility has begun using 100% inspection, it can then begin to implement a comprehensive, plant wide Quality Management system. This means linking the various machines (presses, slitters, doctor machines, laminators), processes (printing, converting, finishing) and departments (pre-press, production, quality control) in the plant - which is done with a Workflow product.

• Verify rolls of labels on the doctor machines and certify them as only containing acceptable labels. iPQ Workflow is comprised of the following modules: Plate Auditor, Event Logger, Data Server, Quality Assistant, Waste Indicator and Re-Wind Navigator. The modules used are determined by the customer’s needs and application.

Some of the most common uses and benefits include:

iPQ Workflow is a complete package of products for this purpose from BST North America, which is used with the company’s Shark ® 4000 LEX and iPQ-Check 100% inspection systems. iPQ Workflow enables assessment, correction and efficient removal of defects, allows for data sharing among machines and departments, helps to simplify finishing processes and helps standardize and streamline quality control from pre-press to shipping of finished product.

• Identification of incorrect plates prior to starting production. • Review of all print defects and identification of which are to be removed and which are not. This can now be done by Quality Control personnel, rather than machine operators, if desired. • Easy and more efficient removal of defects at the slitter – with automatic stopping of the machine at the correct locations.

The SCIENCE of flexo rollers and sleeves Skilled flexo printers know any variation in temperature, humidity, substrates and a host of other conditions will affect the quality of their work. Cleanliness of lines, accuracy of colors and softness of shades can make or break a job. But if you want to maximize profits, you need to optimize uptime, speed and quality. The anilox rollers and sleeves in your presses are only as good as the science behind them— the technology of precision . ARC rollers and sleeves are built to exacting OEM dimensions, with cell geometries engineered for efficient ink usage and precise volumes. Contact ARC today or visit our website to learn more about what the science of flexography from ARC International can do to enhance your graphics. See us at LABELEXPO booth #3002 .

strongly in supporting education, and we are thrilled at the opportunities this press will give to Clemson graphic communications students.” The gift from Nilpeter allows Clemson to employ a hands-on approach to package design and printing education, which gives students a strong employabili- ty advantage. The program boasts a 95 percent em- ployment rate upon graduation. “We appreciate that Nilpeter believes in our stu- dents and faculty to invest this level of commitment in Clemson, and the industry,” said Charles “Chip” Tonkin, Department Chair.

Global Flexo Inks Market To Reach $9.32 Billion

Flexo Market News I NTERNET D IRECTORY

The global flexographic printing inks market is ex- pected to rise from $7.13 billion in 2015 to $9.32 bil- lion by 2020, according to a new report from Transparency Market Research. By product, the water-based ink segment is expected to lead and ac- count for 48.2 percent of the market by 2020, even though there will be a decline in its market by 1.4 percent. The decrease in the market share can be at- tributed to the growing demand for products that have lesser volatile organic compounds (VOC) con- tent. By geography, Asia Pacific led in the past and is expected to continue to do so in the coming years. Asia Pacific is the expected to account for 39.7 per- cent of the global flexographic printing inks market by 2020. On the basis of application, the packaging segment is expected to account for 85.9 percent of the market by 2020. Expansion of the food and beverages industry and the increased demand for flexible packaging in the healthcare industry are two major factors, which are anticipated to boost the demand for flexographic printing inks in the coming years. Additionally, an in- crease in the consumer preference for aesthetic and light weight flexible packaging is expected to propel the demand for flexible packaging. This, in turn, is further expected to augment the flexographic print- ing inks market in the coming years. Gravure Printing Inks Market To Reach $2.6 Billion The market for gravure printing inks has been gain- ing increased momentum across the globe on ac- count of the high-quality image reproduction and low per-unit costs offered by gravure printing. The global gravure printing ink market was valued at US$ 1.8 Billion in 2015 and is projected to reach $2.6 bil- lion by 2024, at a CAGR of 3.98 percent from 2016 to 2024, according to a new report from Transparency Market Research. In terms of volume the gravure printing ink market is expected to reach 928 kilo tons by 2024, expanding at a CAGR of 3.4 percent between 2016 and 2024. The gravure printing ink industry, according to the report, is witnessing numerous challenges in several applications owing to rising demand for flexographic printing ink.The demand for flexographic inks in sev- eral countries of North America and Europe has prominently increased recently, negatively impacting the gravure ink industry in such regions.
