Alleyn Club Yearbook 2017

DULWICH COLLEGE GREAT WAR PROJECT

accessible website providing as much information as possible on the 533 OAs (that we currently know of) who lost their lives in the conflict. The College is therefore grateful to the Alleyn Club for a grant of £3,000 which was used to support the work of four OAs, Ed Walter (04-11), Zack Faja (07-14), Sam Williams (07-14) and Matthew Zeffertt (09-16) to develop the data for this project. How can you help further? Our aim is that each memorial page will have a photograph of the grave

or memorial stone for each OA. On the College website you will find the names of all the OAs who fell in the Great War. They are sorted by: country, place of death, province, cemetery, name and memorial/grave location point. If you live near one of these, or are travelling in the area, we would really appreciate it if you send us a photograph of the following to greatwar @ dulwich.org.uk:

Since August 2014 Dulwich College has marked, on their centenary, the deaths of all those Old Alleynians who fell in the Great War. We have also written short pieces to capture significant moments in that War, such as the battles of Loos, Jutland and the Somme. These details can be found at: http://www.dulwich.org.uk/college/ about/history/the-fallen-of-the -great-war What has developed from this project is a desire to create a publicly

Our people and our stories so far: Terry Walsh, Senior Fellow Professor Sir Bryan Thwaites, OA (36-40)

The memories of OAs are of value not just to themselves but also to posterity. Historians, sociologists, alumni, pupils and others will all benefit from the experiences they share for the project. Oral history complements official documents and records by providing a personal view of historical moments. In 2013 the Dulwich College Archive began to gather oral histories of a number of people who have had a long association with Dulwich College.

Dr Colin Niven CBE, Palmes Académiques, OA (52-60) Chris Field JP MA ARAM LRAM ARCM, OA (51-59) Peter Edgley, OA (38-45) Please contact us if you would like to volunteer to be recorded or if there is an OA you think we should be approaching.
