The media constitute the main source of information on human rights issues, and the freedom of press is itself one of these rights. The discussion in this study draws on the assumption that journalism and human rights are connected and interdependent. If so, the abuses taking place in war zones, the difficulties in accessing conflict areas, and the extreme suffering of ordinary people in those areas render the presence of journalists as reporters of reality and defenders of human rights indispensable. The researcher chose the Syrian conflict as a case study and selected Al Jazeera English, the New York Times and the Guardian to conduct a comparative content analysis. The selection of three different media organizations intends to shed lights on the journalism-human rights relations from different angles. Comparing these three news outlets, helps in understanding if the human rights approach by journalists differs based on cultural and geographical contexts in which their media organizations operate.
