These transformations produced what became known as smart newsrooms or integrated newsrooms, referring to the shift in the new forms of media tasks that have become largely based on modern technologies. The study explores the working attitudes in this new media environment to identify the role of employing modern communication technologies in the transition to what is called idiomatically smart newsrooms. It also tries to identify the contribution of the transition that is taking place in production processes to increasing the number of viewers for television and news bulletins in particular. In doing so, the study sheds light on this important shift and its impact on viewers’ preference for the channels that have adopted this approach. Focusing on Al Jazeera as a case study, the thesis investigates the human and technical capabilities required to provide content that fits with the audience’s requirements. The study analyses an Arab example of smart newsrooms and investigates the tools it uses to cope with this technological shift.
