It focuses on Al Jazeera’s coverage of armed conflicts in Somalia in particular. The study seeks to understand if Al Jazeera’s handling of Somalian conflicts has contributed to building peace, security and stability in the country. The researcher employed a descriptive historical approach to put Somalia’s issues into the wider context of armed conflicts in the Horn of Africa and used content analysis to analyze the data collected through a survey. The findings show that the most important armed conflicts in Somalia were based on tribal loyalties and ethnic affiliations. It also indicate that international channels played an influential role in supporting international efforts to impose peace and fight extremism. Al Jazeera, on the contrary, served as a media arm for extremist groups, which took the conflict out of its local context and gave it a regional international dimension. The study recommends activating the role of global channels to support peace- building operations in Somalia, in line with the United Nations vision to build peace in conflict areas.
