Name: Youssef Kherfi Title: The Reception of Algerian Elites for the Al Jazeera Channel’s Contents and the Achieved Gratification: A Survey Study on a Sample of University Professors Institution: University Mohamed Khider Biskra Country: Algeria Date: 2021 Language: Arabic Abstract: This study aims to reveal how Algerian elites receive the contents of Al Jazeera news channel by identifying the habits and motives of this reception. It also tries to identify the level of satisfaction achieved as well as the elites’ evaluation of such contents. The study employed the survey method, using an electronic questionnaire, which was distributed to a snowball sample of 270 university professors. The key findings showed the following figures: 55.9% of the sample receive Al Jazeera’s content only sometimes, 41.1% of them receive it at night, 57% receive it on television, 49.6% receive it alone, 72.2% prefer to receive content about Arab issues and events, and 39.6% prefer to receive those contents dealing with political topics. The study also found that the most important motive behind receiving Al Jazeera’s content by Algerian elites is cognitive. 29.6% of respondents want to know about global events and 29.3% aim to increase their understanding of various issues. 25.6% receive Al Jazeera’s content in order to learn about the events in the world and only 11.1% receive it to know about events in Algeria.
