It distinguishes between news sources that journalists of CNN and Al Jazeera have depended on while covering the events of the war, and why they gave more airtime to certain news sources over others. The study used content analysis as the main research method and the data for the research was collected from five prime time news bulletins, selected from five-day intervals during the war, from both channels. This study also examines the two channels’ different perspectives towards the war, taking into account their respective histories and their stated position regarding their role and their editorial practices. It also attempts to contextualize this issue by looking at the flow of world news, the development of Arab media, and a brief review of Western media war reporting. The study concludes that the main sources used on CNN were ‘coalition’ military and official sources, while Al Jazeera gave almost equal time to other perspectives such as anti-war voices and ‘independent’ analysts.
