This investigation involves both the technological and professional aspects and includes a critical review of the process through which news is drafted, edited and sourced. This examination is carried out to understand how professional standards are observed throughout this process, and how control mechanisms and political pressures, especially in national and government television channels affect the news industry. This study focuses on news processing at Al Jazeera satellite channel as a case study. It provides an assessment of this operation in light of the channel’s code of ethical and professional standards. It also looks at the political context in which Al Jazeera operates and the various types of pressures affecting its news production both at the levels of processes and policies. The first part of the study presents the theoretical framework and the methodological approach, while the second part focuses on the field research, including conducting interviews and observation.
