Al Jazeera, Al Arabiya and the Egyptian satellite channel emerged as the most preferred channels for viewers due to the wide audience their opinion prpgrammes attract. The study concluded that Arab publics prefer opinion programs on Al Jazeera, which came first with 78.3%, followed by Al Arabiya with 37.5%, while the Egyptian satellite channel ranked third with 11%. The research findings showed that the opinion programmes most preferred by Arab publics on Al Jazeera were the “Opposite Direction” by 61%, and “More than One Opinion” by 35.5%, followed by “the House is Yours” on the Egyptian satellite channel in third place with 31%. The researcher noted that the majority of the research sample does not participate in Arab opinion programs, which reflects the passivity of Arab viewers and the lack of participatory culture in Arab societies. The study indicated that the fierce competition for audience and advertisements caused the failure of Egyptian channels to balance seriousness and excitement, which led to flatness and insignificance.
