It also seeks to determine the extent of objectivity and impartiality of that discourse, the level of trust the audience maintained in both channels, and the degree to which the viewers relied on them as a source of information about the competing political entities. The study adopted a descriptive approach, using the questionnaire tool to explore the opinions of the Iraqi public about the content of Al Arabiya and Al Jazeera’s media discourse. The findings showed that the Iraqi public believes that the coverage of the two channels for the 2010 elections was fair, and that their performance was impartial. Their discourse gained the public’s trust due to the ability of both channels to capture the viewers’ attention and build interactive communication bridges with them. The results also indicated that the media discourse of Al Arabiya and Al Jazeera was able to influence voters’ choices, to a large extent.
