Ghali Title: Al Jazeera Networks: The Voice of the Arab World Institution: Kutztown University of Pennsylvania Country: United States Date: 2012 Language: English Abstract: This study explores how the newscasts of Al Jazeera English and Al Jazeera Arabic channels differ from each other in the coverage of news stories. Television news is the main source of information about politics and event information. A very good way to understand the relationship between culture and news stories is to compare between media channels targeting different cultures in the coverage of international news. Al Jazeera Networks have two targets with different interests and cultures. Al Jazeera Arabic targets Arab speakers around the world, while Al Jazeera English has a worldwide English-speaking audience. The results indicate that the same news stories are covered with different priorities and in different ways during the same broadcast time slots of the two channels. The study found that, although the two networks have access to different sources of information, stories are presented from the same point of view. All news sources are biased in some way, and both Al Jazeera Arabic and Al Jazeera English, even with their different target audiences, share a bias based on political, economic, and social interests of the Arab world.
