Al-Qadi Title: Media Treatment of the Iraqi Crisis in Al Jazeera and CNN Satellite Channels Institution: Cairo University Country: Egypt Date: 2012 Language: Arabic Abstract: This study seeks to understand and analyze the methods used in news treatment of the war in Iraq from a comparative perspective between Al Jazeera and CNN satellite channels. It also aims to identify the similarities and differences between the two channels with regard to their coverage of the Iraqi issues and to establish the extent to which the news treatment in both channels was consistent with their agendas and editorial policies. The study draws on a number of theoretical frameworks including the news framing theory. The researcher used the survey tool to collect the required data from the media content provided by the two channels. The study sampled a number of newscasts, reports and programmes, and used content analysis methodology to analyze the collected data. To compare the ways in which the two channels treated the Iraqi crisis and related issues in their news coverage, the study measured the volume of news materials devoted to Iraq, which revealed the overall direction and forms of media coverage in Al Jazeera and CNN satellite channels during the research period.
