Hussein Title: The Effectiveness of Arab Media in the Context of Globalization: Applied Study to Al Jazeera and MBC Satellite Channels for the Period between 2011 and 2013 Institution: Omdurman Islamic University Country: Sudan Date: 2013 Language: Arabic Abstract: This study examines the impact of the media on Arab citizens by comparing Al Jazeera and MBC1. The researcher used a number of mixed methodological approaches, including content analysis. She also used a number of tools to collect data, such as the survey, the questionnaire and the interview. The findings stressed the importance of relying on the local product that takes into account the cultural and ethnic heritage of Arab societies. This trend was confirmed by 19% of respondents. 37% of respondents believe that some channels respect the mentality of Arab viewers, while 26.5% indicated that some channels do not consider those values. Rather, they offer content that is not suitable for the family, especially for young aged groups, who are still vulnerable, easily influenced, and distracted from the Arab and Islamic principles. The research concluded with a number of recommendations for Al Jazeera and MBC1, including the need to show more commitment to the values of transparency and credibility, and respect for the viewer’s mentality. The study also recommends that Arab channels benefit more from new technologies to produce their own content.
